Contemporary Abstract by Kay Wyne

Untitled
Contemporary Abstract
48" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Mixed Media
This painting is finished, and is drying in the studio.  It's interesting that I see different things in this painting than others do.  I started with a roadmap of Texas.  About half way through the painting my husband saw a map of the United States.  My cousin sees a big mouth bass (Big Billy Bass) in it, and one of my studio mates see a vase with flowers in abundance covering the entire canvas.  Let me know if you have a title suggestion for this one.  I love the colors, lines and shapes that flow from each other.  I used oils, oil bars and charcoal on this one.  So it is a mixed media piece.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay for more info.  Kay Wyne

Sunflower Gold, mixed media painting by V. Bridges Hoyt

SUNFLOWER GOLD, mixed media of watercolor and paint pen on
9 x 12 x 1-1/2 inch deep gallery wrap canvas.
Copyright Vernita Bridges Hoyt 2009, 2014.
The painted image wraps the 1-1/2" deep sides of canvas.
AVAILABLE.
Another painting from the "Out of my Head" series, Sunflower Gold has been held in my archives since 2009. On looking back, I realize my mother provided inspiration for this painting. She grew giant sunflowers in a sunny flower bed to attract the birds. Send me a message for more information about this painting.

Contemporary Floral Abstract
Acrylic, paper, crayon on Birch Panel
Happy colors and texture make this panel interesting and fun.  I played with some new hand-made papers.  I was not sure that I would like the birch panel since I usually paint on canvas.  But I liked it and had fun with it.  Contact Kay for purchasing information....thanks, Kay

Acrylic, paper, crayon on Birch Panel
Every once in a while I find some hand-made papers and get our all of my acrylic based paints and supplies to work on mixed media.  This piece was fun once I got started and had my materials out.  Happy colors and texture make this panel interesting and whimsical.  I played with some new hand-made papers and experimented with a birch panel.  Contact ME for purchasing information.  Thanks, Kay

Celebrate Today ~ Red Poppy Torn Paper Collage by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Celebrate Today ~ Red Poppy
by Nancy Medina
Mixed Media, Torn Paper Collage
11X14

.
Celebrate Today, Red Poppy, is the newest artwork in Flower Mound Studio this week. One big ole mess on the table, one new poppy collage complete! I have been collaging in my head every day since taking a torn paper collage workshop from the master multimedia artist, Nancy Standlee, recently. I see a bird, I think of it as a collage. I see an apple, I'm tearing up magazines in my imagination and gluing that little apple into abstract shapes. Even my puggies have been subjected to the idea of pet portraiture in paper. (They are refusing to make eye contact...) There's nothing quite like having a new obsession to keep your creative muses humming!

Ask me how many times I tipped the glue pot...

Burrito Wagon by Kay Wyne

Burrito Wagon
24" x 24" Mixed Media
NFS
This is one of my very first stabs at mixed media.  It started in a workshop, and then I completed it in the studio.  I had used images of some of our favorite places in New Mexico, and because of the subject matter and colors my husband John really liked this piece and it hangs in our home office.

Here is a close-up, as you can see there is a lot going on.  Fabric, torn paper, crayons, confetti paper, old map, paint and images of New Mexico cover the canvas.  I was visiting with another artist the other day, encouraging her to try mixed media..... so this post is for Susan.  Susan is a photographer with a wonderful portfolio.  The possibilities are limitless for some new work, maybe mixed media, using altered photographs.  I found some wonderful papers and images the other day, and it was kind of putting me in the mood to tackle another mixed media piece.  I always have my oils out, so pulling out the acrylics and mixed media supplies always shakes things up.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  Have a great day.....Kay

Texas Sunflower Painting by V. Bridges Hoyt

A sunflower created out of mixed media—pencil, watercolor, gold permanent paint pen, ink pen and pastel Conte pencils. In the light, the gold paint accents glimmer. It seems impossible to pick up the shiny gold paint on a camera image.

"Silver-tipped Floral" mixed media by Texas Artist Linda Bein

"Silver-Tipped Floral"
Mixed Media
15"X22"
$425
To inquire contact Linda at lindaabein@gmail.com
This painting was started years ago and re-created one day.  It is a mixed media painting but is more like an experimental painting.  It started as a watercolor, then I covered it with gesso and sprayed it with water.  I also put some acrylic paint on it and sprayed again.  I began to see flowers emerge.  Then I began to paint with watercolor again and also some pearl paint.  I used acrylic paint in a squeeze bottle for the flowers.

Reputation of a Boxer Dog by V Bridges Hoyt

Take care of your reputation. It's your most valuable asset. —Life's Little Instruction Book.

"Reputation" of the Boxer pup Huxley. 10x8 inch mixed media on panel. Your purchase of this painting will generate a donation to Legacy Boxer Rescue in Texas. Click here for more information about the donation.

This little boxer pup was orphaned at birth. Legacy Boxer Rescue took him in and found him a foster mom who later adopted him. Perseus, as he was known in the beginning, later was renamed Huxley. I have gone back into this earlier painting and added "Huxley" to the placard behind. I'll be doing a bit more detail work on the script "Huxley" as soon as the paint is dry. Originally I named the painting "Hux in a Tux" but on the repaint I decided to add Huxley's name and rename the painting "Reputation." Huxley earned his reputation first under the name of "Perseus" as the unofficial mascot for Legacy Boxer Rescue as he fought all odds to survive. Anyone who loves boxer dogs would be proud to have a painting of Huxley on their wall. Huxley represents determination and reputation.

"Jessie" ~ watercolor figure by Texas Daily Painter Nancy Standlee

"Jessie"
15" x 22" Watercolor, acrylic, charcoal on paper

In October I took a 3 day figure workshop with Daily Painter, Liz Hill, in Houston. Each morning we had a different model to draw and then we'd paint in the afternoon after the model went home. The models allowed photos to be taken. I've had three more workshops since then and haven't been able to paint and use anything I learned at the figure workshop. So Saturday and Sunday right before the Western Federation deadline, I finally had an opportunity to paint "Jessie" from one of my photographs. Liz draws from live models about three times a week but at this stage in my figure painting I need a photograph. I really enjoy mixing up the media and combining it with the charcoal. I want to pursue this way of working and schedule another Houston trip for the next Liz Hill workshop. Western Fed is a juried art show and allows 3 entries per person and artists will be notified if they got in after the first of the year.

Chalk It Up: A Collaborative Canvas by Kay Wyne and Charles William

Chalk It Up
48" x 48" Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Today is the deadline for an entry at the McKinney Aveue Contemporary for the membership show. We finished this piece yesterday. (Nothing like a deadline to push you!) The theme is "Fifteen". The artists are Charles William (Faciall) and myself. I met Charles through the Stewpot Art Program where I volunteer, and we thought it would be fun to work on a piece together...from start to finish.

We discussed several different ideas, and one day Charles found a plastic bucket of fifteen colorful chalks. We took them outside on blistering day, and had a photograph session and played with the chalk on the hot concrete in the 105 degree Texas heat.

So we had our inspiration and a reference photograph to work from.We wanted to create something that was fun and exciting. Charles is a very talented artist who works in acrylics...and I needed to adapt to the acrylics since it had been years since I painted in acrylics. I love my oils. Anyway, we got a 48" x 48" canvas and started painting...we had to talk about it all...usually Charles and I sit down in front of the canvas and the art just pours out. We really don't discuss it...but we both needed to make sure that what we were dong was alright with the other. Soon the piece became mixed media and we added chalk and pastels to the paint to give it a chalky effect.

This collaboration was a great experience for both of us. I think we learned alot about art and about ourselves. We exchanged our views on painting methods and techniques, and exchanged conversation about our daily lives. Charles is a an extremely gifted artist, and unique individual. It was an honor to paint with Charles on this canvas.

I hope that you are able to visit the exhibit at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary in August to view this fun piece of art. A portion of the sale will go to Stewpot and the MAC....It is for sale, and if you would like to purchase, please contact me at: kay@kwyne.com. Also, I would encourage you to visit the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas Stewpot website: http://thestewpot.org/art.asp. The Open Art Studio is a community outreach serving the at-risk populations of Dallas. It is open to all people looking for an environment to express and create through the medium of art.
