Bullrider Sketch - ink and watersoluble pencil rodeo drawing

This drawing is one that I did at a rodeo (albeit a total shorthand version that only I could decipher) and then worked over it loosely with ink and water-soluble pencil.  I thought this bull rider was about to bite the dust, but then he righted himself and lasted for eight.  This one is on 6 x 6" Bristol paper.  To see more of my artwork, please click here to visit my blog.

Black Bird by Suzy Pal Powell

A fun Sketch of a Black Bird that was in our pasture.
I sketched it first with Black ink, then decided to paint it.

Pine or Spruce or Fir or...a WHOLE SKETCHBOOK

Pine or Spruce or Fir___Sketch # 29 in my Colorado sketchbook, EBAY sale NOW thru Oct. 23

This title is one of my better ones! I really do not know if this tree was a pine or a spruce or a fir. All three of these types of trees are in the forests where our place is in Colorado.
A few weeks ago I completed 30 sketches in Colorado...in a hard-bound sketchbook, archival paper...I am offering the whole book!...PLEASE click here to see the web page. It shows EVERY SKETCH in my Colorado Sketchbook. It is good to see them all together in one place. See my blog for the field notes!

September 23 began my sketchbook sale. I am offering the ENTIRE sketchbook to any collector who wants it. This is not a "Daily Painting" price tag, so beware when you see the price! This sketchbook represents two weeks of work, and study and field notes. I want my closest art friends to have first shot at it, since I know your appreciation! But if no one buys it this month, I will send it to a gallery. Here is the link for the ebay sale. Below shows how each sketch fits on the page...there are a couple similar photos on my web page...please comment!

Lion Lounge__V....Vaughan

Lion Lounge_11x14 pencil on acid free paper__$250 (click to enlarge)
I hope some of the kids and teachers who saw the start of this drawing will send me a note of "howdy" if they see this one finished. I did a demo for the Federal Junior Duck Stamp group in South Carolina on Tuesday. The talk I gave while drawing this was all about the importance of sketching. I spoke about "seeing" the easiest elements: line, shapes, values, and built the drawing with values rather than "outlines"....I will be teaching this thoroughly at my next big workshop in June (5-7) here in Texas.
