Cheers to Twenty Years - by Kay Wyne

Cheers to Twenty Years
Commission for Taste of the NFL
Mixed Media - 30" x 24" Gallery Wrap Canvas

“Cheers to Twenty Years” is a mixed media art piece exploring the purpose of The Taste of the NFL, the chefs, and events that have taken place in the past twenty years. It is a work of art celebrating the parties with purpose. The canvas tells the story of many memories past…ticket stubs, cookbook covers, wine labels, the thirty-two NFL teams, chefs, and the mission statement. The longhorn, bandana and map of North Texas add a Texas flavor to the canvas. A wine glass and confetti are reminders of parties past. Deep rich colors, lines, shapes and images allow the eye to move all over the canvas. I was truly inspired by the commitment and generosity of so many people who have been associated with this organization. My goal was to capture and celebrate the spirit of The Taste of the NFL on canvas.
It's Super Bowl time! Everyone in North Texas is getting ready for the Super Bowl. If you aren't familiar with Taste of the NFL, please go to their website...for twenty years they have been raising money to help support Food Banks. They put on a great party the night before the Super Bowl (yes, I get to attend with family and friends!!!) Here is the piece...and what has been really fun for me is to donate the art, meet so many fabulous people who are working towards one goal. Helping feed the hungry. Here is a press release on the artwork: http://www.kwyne.com/images/events/NR%20TNFL%20Artwork.FINAL.pdfThanks for viewing this blog, and have an artful day! ---Kay

Happy Trails by Kay Wyne

This is one of my first mixed media pieces. Currently, I am working on two commission pieces in mixed media. I have fun with the mixed media...using acrylics, fabric, pen, paper, stamps, and found objects. The possibilities are endless. Thanks for looking at this blog and my art.

Cowboys and Fort Worth Texas ~ Main Showroom ~ Nancy Standlee

"Main Showroom"

18"x24 gallery wrapped canvas, 1 1/2" depth
Acrylic mixed media on Canvas

Cowboys - Fort Worth – Cowtown - Stockyards - Longhorns ..

All of these words evoke memories of early Cowtown and the old stockyards district is today
a center of daily entertainment and Western-style nightlife.
The Stockyards were developed in the 1880’s and grew to be the largest in the world. Now Exchange Avenue is lined with restored nineteenth-century buildings. Cowboys can be found driving a herd of longhorns through the historic streets each day and we can get a glimpse into our past and heritage. Close by is Billy Bob’s Texas with real bull riding in an indoor arena. It was built in 1910 as an open air cattle barn and now can hold 6000 people for a concert. This north side area of Fort Worth tells a little of the Cowtown story and still has the Wild West atmosphere.
I toured the area taking many photographs and made black and white copies in different sizes to collage. The edges of these copies can be seen and felt on the painting. I drew in the central figure for placement and painted the cowboy figure in acrylics. Some of the words, Ladies, Bull Riding, Main Show Room were actual signs inside of Billy Bob's that were photographed. I painted on top of the copies after covering them with an acrylic medium and used some crossword puzzles for colors and design. Collage is one of my favorite ways of working because if it doesn't work attach something else over it. Gerald Brommer, collage artist, says you can keep doing that until you can't pick it up.
