Daily Painting in Progress. I paint on a Painting a Day.

Daily Painting does not necessarily mean that I complete a painting a day, but it does mean that I do paint daily.

I convert a work-in-progress to digital grayscale to check values. Grayscale does it! The grayscale image shows me where I need to make adjustments.

Currently, I have a sunflower on the easel while a pet portrait awaits the next glaze of oil paint. I find it as easy to paint two paintings as it is to paint one.

Dalmatian Dogs have Unique Spot Patterns … 

Did you know that each Dalmatian has a unique spot pattern … like a finger print? There is no making up the spots. Spots are much more than black and white. If you want the dog to be recognized, you have to get those spots in the right places along with the usual features in the face—the look in the eyes, the placement of the nose, the whiskers, the shape of the mouth, the size of the ears, etc.

Dalmatian Pet Portrait, Oil Painting by V Bridges Hoyt

Recently completed, this pet portrait of Molly Dalmatian is one of four Dalmatian paintings commissioned. Each portrait is 8x10 inches, and they will hang side by side when all four are completed and delivered. Molly is the second portrait. I am now painting the third one.

Another painting from the "Out of my Head" series, Sunflower Gold has been held in my archives since 2009. On looking back, I realize my mother provided inspiration for this painting. She grew giant sunflowers in a sunny flower bed to attract the birds. Send me a message for more information about this painting.

WATERMELON WITH A FORK

I have not been on this or the Artists of Texas blog in quite some time as I had  family caregiving priorities over the past few years. Now I am back in the studio painting portrait commissions.
