Tuscan Pansies by artist Pat Meyer

Pansies are some of my favorite flowers and when I witness their smiling faces in the Spring garden it makes me so happy.  With Easter behind us and MOM'S day coming soon I can't help but remember the days I use to plant pansies in a milk container and give to my dear Mom for Mother's day.  Guess that is one of the reasons I like these flowers so much is because of the great memories they provide.

Pansy Panoply

Dallas Arboretum Class Demonstration

16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Pansy Panoply was my classroom demonstration today at the Dallas Arboretum. What a treat to have Megan Bruce, who usually serves as my hostess and coordinator from the Adult Ed Department, join us to put brush to canvas! We painted fresh pansies today step by step, while the garden outside the classroom windows was buzzing with activity. Over 70,000 pumpkins are on display there, and moms and dads were taking pictures of kids on pumpkins left and right in the perfect sunny weather with mums and blossoms all about.  It was a regular flower mob scene! My next workshop is in another sunny locale, San Diego. Students from Singapore, Canada, Australia, and across the US will converge on Balboa Park to make brilliant flowers bloom in oils. Be sure to wear your sunscreen, hat and flip flops, and stay tuned to the art bloggy for San Diego garden photos to come!

What REALLY goes on behind the scenes during a flower painting video? I'm sure this questions has kept you up many, many nights. Are there gaffs? grips? good looking stuntmen in plaid skirts for the Outlander Series hanging about with nothing to do but provide neckrubs for tired female artists? Read more....

Pumpkin and Pansy Celebration and a Missouri Workshop - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

 Pumpkin and Pansy Celebration
by Nancy Medina
16X20
Oil on Archival Panel ~ Sold

Class Demonstration

Pumpkin and Pansy Celebration was one of my class demonstrations today in Lees Summit, Missouri. We were so lucky to find gorgeous fresh pansies to serve as our flower models. After two days under the spotlight, their little heads were nodding, so we set them out in the chilly wet air this evening to give them the refresher they wanted. It's never a good thing when you're pansies aren't perky, I always say.... Tomorrow, blue hydrangeas in a teal glass vase! But today's puzzler, see if you can spot the candy corn in the picture below...

Can you spot the candy corn in this picture?

Fall Garden Pansies by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

 Fall Garden Pansies
by Nancy Medina
12X16
Oil on Archival Panel

Fall Garden Pansies is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio. We had a special visitor today, Bett came for a private lesson, and rocked her pink and white roses in bright colors. AnnieBee and Hannah assisted us in the studio, of course, providing snorts of appreciation. This week I pack up for a fall workshop in Irving, Texas, and I'm excited to see some familiar faces returning to join me for flower painting again. I hope to see you there!

Purple Plenitude Pansies of Park City by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Purple Plenitude Pansies
by Nancy Medina
10X8
Oil on Archival Panel

Purple Plenitude Pansies was a painting inspired by the flowers blooming in riotous color and wild abandon in downtown Park City, Utah last week. Cold mountain air is conducive to brilliant blooms, it seems, though my own back yard is still producing quite a few blossoms, thanks to a very mild summer. This is the third entry for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge on Leslie Saeta's blog this month. My own garden is producing hundreds of late bloomers, thanks to a very mild North Texas summer. Visit my art blog today to see an image of my favorite back yard flower, the morning glory, taken today with my four-footed puggy assistants nearby.

I am honored to have been invited to serve as the demonstration artist for the September 11 meeting of a very talented group of artists, the Mid-Cities Fine Artists, in Hurst, Texas. I hope you will join us for a fun evening of painting and talking about art and become an MCFA member while you're at it!  Read more...

SOLD ~ Sugar Bowl Pansies and a Quick Tip on Painting White Flowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Sugar Bowl Pansies by Nancy Medina

SOLD
8X10
Oil on Panel

In an attempt to show a smidgen of self-discipline and restrain myself from painting my new red vase ad infinitum, I painted a white sugar bowl today. A dear friend asked how to make the whites and I thought you might like to know, since I also happen to be infatuated with white flowers lately. Visit my art blog to read a bit about my method!

Put a little joy in your brush and join me for a flower painting workshop to hear more tips for making your flowers sing with color. The new year is just around the corner. What a great time to loosen your approach to painting and learn to fall in love with your easel again!

Pansy Parazzi Flower Painting Workshop by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers
16X20
Oil on Linen Panel

Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers was my class demo this morning, in Day 2 of my 3-day workshop at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts. This afternoon in our class paint-along, the ladies created beautiful blue filigree white China sugar bowls. We sacrificed the one remaining white pansy on the pot of blossoms I brought to class from my back yard garden. But it gave itself for a good cause, to be memorialized in oils for all time! (Can you tell I'm still feeling bad about picking that little pansy off the plant?)  Tomorrow I am very excited, I will be painting white hydrangeas, white roses, and holly berries in my NEW RED VASE the Carlos picked up for me today. *sound of trumpets* If this doesn't kick our paintbrushes into holiday gear, nothing will! Except, of course, for a little eggnog.... Stay tuned to my art blog for more class pictures, red vases, holiday themed paintings, and workshop fun.

Nosy Neighbors Coronado Rose Cottage by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Nosy Neighbors Coronado Rose Cottage
by Nancy Medina
12X12
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Nosy Neighbors Coronado Rose Cottage has been calling my name for a few months now, while I've worked on various projects and ignored the siren song. All of my images from my show on Coronado Island in the spring have been beckoning so I heeded the call and painted my first version of the award winning gardens for the annual Flower Show for 2012. There is a beautiful haze in the air on the island, and the sunlight is so gentle there, not like the cerulean blue piercing light of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and certainly not like the 400 degree beacon of Texas afternoon sunshine. It's definitely the perfect lighting for gentle souls on bicycles to pedal to their favorite coffee shop, spend the afternoon on the beach with the kids, and the evening on the porch rocker with a furry friend nearby. I'll never be able to afford to live there on this perfect little island, but I can paint it til the cows come home! Visit my art blog today to take a peek at my newest container garden, Wild Things Roses and Pansies. This four foot garden is a departure from my usual formula of blues, purples and orange yellow sunflowers. I focused on reds, burgundies, earth tones, terra cotta, and baskets. It is July in Dallas, so we are thinking warm in Flower Mound Studio!

Winter Pansies by Judy Crowe

'Winter Pansies'  7x5 oil on panel
Pansies are a favorite flower of mine because they are just so colorful.  As my mentor :) Richard Schmid says, "you can almost paint them with colors straight from the tube".  I am very very very very happy to be painting!  And I will paint tomorrow Lord Willing!!  You know, they say that what you do on the first day of the year determines what you will be doing the rest of the year as well...so if you are an artist...I do hope we all can get in our studios tomorrow!  If not, that's ok, this week then....Blessings to you and your family for the new year!  Thanks for stopping by.
