Red Roses Step by Step by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

A Million Kisses ~ Red Roses
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

A Million Kisses Red Roses is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, as the days move closer to the the time of year I love most. I wanted to go a bit overboard with the color on this painting, break a few rules, and splash some paint around just for the sheer joy of it. I paint every day not just because it's good for my work, but because life is short and you should spend it doing something you feel absolutely passionate about.  I also have a trusty little helper who can always be relied upon to give me a giggle. Take a peek at my blog to see this painting step by step, and to to see one of Annie's funniest moments...

Step by Step White Lilies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Monday Lilies by Nancy Medina
10X8
Oil on Archival Panel

Free Shipping Through the Holidays!

I decide what to paint each day as almost the last step before picking up the brush. I mix most of my colors directly on the canvas, with the color reaction occurring when the brush picks up the hue beneath and around where it touches the surface. Visit my art blog today to see this painting step by step, and hear more about how it was created.

I intentionally staged some orange on blue in Blue Monday Lilies, can you tell where I did that? You as the artist have the tools to create drama in your paintings, find opportunities in your floral setups to lay brilliant complements atop one another. Lay a stroke of pure color and fight the urge to blend it away. Don't turn down the volume, turn it up. Let your color sing!

SOLD ~ Sugar Bowl Pansies and a Quick Tip on Painting White Flowers by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Sugar Bowl Pansies by Nancy Medina

SOLD
8X10
Oil on Panel

In an attempt to show a smidgen of self-discipline and restrain myself from painting my new red vase ad infinitum, I painted a white sugar bowl today. A dear friend asked how to make the whites and I thought you might like to know, since I also happen to be infatuated with white flowers lately. Visit my art blog to read a bit about my method!

Put a little joy in your brush and join me for a flower painting workshop to hear more tips for making your flowers sing with color. The new year is just around the corner. What a great time to loosen your approach to painting and learn to fall in love with your easel again!

Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Panel

Shades of White Lilies and Red Berries is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, as we continue to celebrate my new red vase *sound of trumpets*. The first time I knew I'd be painting the vase was on my way to teach a class in North Texas. I studied all of the red and maroon cars and trucks I passed along the way, thinking about what shades would be most striking lying next to one another (my students know, this is where I say "lay the color next to, but not on top of, the shade next to it, and blend only where they touch!") Fight the urge to blend blend blend and let those pure color notes to shine! Here's to shining over the holiday season to come - be colorful, and don't let anyone dim your wattage!

Love Always Lily and Rose Garden by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Love Always Lily and Rose Garden
by Nancy Medina
36X24
Palette Knife/Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Love Always Lily and Rose Container Garden is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio, and was finished around 3 am. If it weren't for caffeine, I'm not quite sure I could have pulled this off! It's been a few days since I painted, and I just returned from one of the best Thanksgiving meals ever at Mom's house. My sisters and our family have so much to be thankful for, another year with Mom, being at the top of that list. Here's wishing you a wonderful holiday with lots of delicious things to eat and loved ones nearby!

Berry Rose Flower Painting in White by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Berry Rose by Nancy Medina
8X10
Oil on Panel

Today was the last day of my flower painting workshop in Irving, Texas, and we painted fast and loose and made white roses and holly berries bloom! With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, we shared some of our favorite must-have dishes that would be served next week. I am pretty sure I'm going to show up on Nancy Standlee's doorstep unannounced to sample one of the multiple chocolate pies she said she will be making! I told Carlos if he really loved me, he would learn to make pies and pastries. So far no luck. I'll keep you posted if he realized how truly serious I am about this...!

My next workshop is almost full so I sure hope to see you there! Click here for details....

Pansy Parazzi Flower Painting Workshop by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers
16X20
Oil on Linen Panel

Pansy Paparazzi and Sunflowers was my class demo this morning, in Day 2 of my 3-day workshop at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts. This afternoon in our class paint-along, the ladies created beautiful blue filigree white China sugar bowls. We sacrificed the one remaining white pansy on the pot of blossoms I brought to class from my back yard garden. But it gave itself for a good cause, to be memorialized in oils for all time! (Can you tell I'm still feeling bad about picking that little pansy off the plant?)  Tomorrow I am very excited, I will be painting white hydrangeas, white roses, and holly berries in my NEW RED VASE the Carlos picked up for me today. *sound of trumpets* If this doesn't kick our paintbrushes into holiday gear, nothing will! Except, of course, for a little eggnog.... Stay tuned to my art blog for more class pictures, red vases, holiday themed paintings, and workshop fun.

Sweet Clementines and Blue Hydrangea Painting by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Sweet Clementines and Blue Hydrangeas
by Nancy Medina
18X18
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Sweet Clementines, Blue Hydrangeas and White Roses is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, as I begin work on a new large rose commission. I love the cold weather that has rolled in, and freely admit to being one of those odd people who start playing Christmas music on November 1 and refuse to take down the tree until February. Fortunately, I do have a helper who likes to keep the tree handy, too, but she prefers to pull things off the tree, rather than hang ornaments on it! Visit my art blog today to see my helper in action....

Argyle Acres Iris Farm by Nancy Medina

Argyle Acres Iris Farm
16X20
Oil on Linen Board

Here is my newest iris landscape paintings, Argyle Acres Iris Farm, one of the largest I have painted to date from this farm so close to my home in Flower Mound, Texas. Irises are fun to paint because they each have their own personalities. They're unpredictable and just a little rowdy with their petals, throwing things off in unexpected directions. You can see a photographic tour of the farm on my blog today!

White Lily Solo by Nancy Medina

The fireplace is back in use today in Dallas, where temperatures dipped down to extra chilly last night. The pugs are all asleep in a pile of paws and whiskers, and all that can be heard in the studio is snoring and happy dog dream noises. This white lily was painted from images I photographed yesterday afternoon after a quick trip to the grocery store. I go for soap, I come home with flowers. I'm not quite sure why, but that always seems to happen.

I hope you and your loved ones are bundled up and staying warm this morning, and you are looking forward to the holidays like I am. If you have critters, please bring them inside, where they belong. After all, someone has to keep an eye on the kitchen while you're in the studio painting all day!
