French Roses and All My Best from Paris - Nancy Medina Art Classes and Videos

French Roses
by Nancy Medina
20X20
Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas, Sold

Class Demonstration, Frayssinet, France

It's important to learn from your travel experiences, taking note of those important teaching moments,  such as taking selfies facing upward into the rain in front of the Eiffel tower with your eyes open is an exercise in futility. Cafe hopping across Paris with a total disregard for a reasonable eating schedule is highly encouraged. Searching for the Sennelier art store (which happens to reside across from the Musee d'Orsay which rhymes with Monet) is a worthy pursuit, even if you do the entire pilgrimage at sunset, knowing full well the oldest art store in Paris will be closed when you arrive.

I'm sharing all the best videos, photos, and moments from my month of teaching in France with you on my Facebook fan page, including our tour of Monet's Garden in Giverny. Read more....

Soaking Up Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Soaking Up Sunshine
14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Thick paint applied with a new wide brush made this painting so much fun to paint.  Up until the last few strokes, the vase was square in shape, but with the background window pains, I though it was all too angular.  So I changed it up.  The 14" x 14" canvas size is a nice medium size---you wouldn't think that there is much difference between a 12" x 12" and this size...but there is a huge difference.  This contemporary still life is colorful, bold, and happy.  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at the art posted on this blog.  KAY

This painting spoke to me after it was finished and each of the flowers acted like they had become friends.  Not only friends but ones that would always make you feel cheery so that is how it got it's name Sunny Friends.

Well I broke down while at the nursery and saw these beautiful antiques roses. They became a must have.  Yes,  it is time to smell the roses with these bunch or roses.  The bush was so pretty and delicate.  Now the big thing is to baby it and keep it happy at my house.

My sweet hubby one day came into the studio and said to me what are you painting and I said I don't know what to paint today.  He looked at me and said you better produce something.  Well the next thing I know I was dragging out all the produce from the draw and a painting arose.  Add some roses and there you go a new painting.

Violet Veranda Rose Arbor - Flower Painting Classes and Workshops by Nancy Medina Art

http://nancymedina.fineartstudioonline.com/workszoom/1695662

Violet Veranda Rose Arbor
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Violet Veranda Rose Arbor is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and I totally intended to tone down the color in this one when I started. Sometimes when I paint, the color just takes control and leads the way and I follow. I think way down deep I just wish all gardens grew this way, with over the top color! Today I was tickled pink to have my first student from Ireland sign up for a workshops. I've had students from Kazakhstan, Singapore, Canada, and Australia previously, but this will be the first one from the Emerald Isle! I sure wish I could travel to visit all of these cool places with paintbrush in hand, don't you?

During the winter months we long to see our gardens blooming again in the spring.  We await their blossoms to reappear and make the garden glow in all it's glory.  While we wait these little winter roses give us hope for the renewing of the earth.

Peach Bloomers Roses - Flower Painting Classes and Workshops by Nancy Medina Art

Peach Bloomers
by Nancy Medina
16X16
Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas

Peach Bloomers is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, as I pack up my favorite vases, along with buckets of fresh flowers for my Valentine's workshop this weekend. I have so many prizes to give away I had to buy a roll of those ticket stub thingies. Amongst the goodies are four perfect men who shall be going home with four lucky students (won't their husbands be surprised!). These perfect men who are prizes are decadently rich and very attractive. I certainly hope there won't be any hair pulling or name calling when they make their appearance! Stay tuned, I'll be sharing photos of these perfect fellows with you soon, along with all the excitement of our three day event.

Shy Roses by artist Pat Meyer

The petals of these roses are hiding their faces from all that view them.  You can feel how shy they are feeling from the way they position themselves in the vase.  Can you feel it? This painting is suppose to make you feel the calm, quiet of the day and how shy they must be.

Finding the Perfect Man on Valentine's - Cloudless Sky White Roses - Flower Painting Workshops and Classes by Nancy Medina Art

http://nancymedina.fineartstudioonline.com/workszoom/1675312

Cloudless Sky White Roses
by Nancy Medina
16X16
Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas

As I was trundling my cart filled with pink, white and fuschia roses to my car today, a cart which also held a bran new vase, it occurred to me it is a wonderful thing to be able to buy flowers as a business expense! My studio is so filled with roses it smells like a wedding in here. I keep expecting someone in a frilly gown to come marching in flinging petals hither and yon. Instead, I hear a thundering herd approaching, and into my studio running full tilt are four fat, happy, out of breath pugs, ready for second breakfast at 10 am sharp. It's good to be a stay at home artist, painting happy colors all day and spoiling funny faced dogs.

Looking for the perfect man? Some lucky lady will be taking him home from my Valentine's Party workshop next week in Irving, Texas! My studio storage room is packed to the gills with prizes and we'll be painting fresh flowers and French landscapes, and sharing a French picnic lunch Saturday. In addition to gift baskets and couture wear for everyone, there will also be a visit from that good looking aforementioned guy! Stay tuned for the photographic evidence...

 Raindrops on Roses
by Nancy Medina
20X20
Palette Knife/Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas

Can you tell what song has been going through my mind all day? I had quite a bit of fun with Raindrops on Roses, after filling the canvas with a bit of riotous color, I then gelled up my paint super thick and applied a layer in palette knife and broad brush to finish off the highlights. There is just something about texture and color together that makes the heart happy....

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor and Braving the Harsh Elements in the Florida Wilds - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

http://nancymedina.fineartstudioonline.com/workszoom/1659269

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

White Rhapsody Rose Arbor is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, the landscapes are still calling my name and rose arbors are one of my favorite things to paint (and photograph) in the whole wide world. I have so many great images from Coronado, California, but White Rhapsody is based on the bougainvillea rose arbor we painted plein air in Florida last spring. You may recall that this was the "kinder, gentler" plein air class I taught where we provided tables and chairs under the beautiful Florida sun and 'neath the swaying palms. Once we were all set up and happy, content with knowing the owner of the property was quite happy we were painting his flowers, the neighbor's sprinkler system went off, making us all run for high ground. Just goes to show, you must be prepared for everything nature, and lawncare, throws at you whilst braving those harsh elements painting in the wild...

Friendly Hotel Alligators and Rainwater Roses in Sunny Florida - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

Rainwater Roses and Strawberries

Class Demonstration

When I saw the little boy hopping up and down at 7 am this morning in my hotel lobby and pointing, I thought maybe he really liked the koi pond here at the Gaylord Palms. Imagine my surprise when I saw what he was really excited about - the resident gators! Fortunately these leathery little guys didn't seem too interested in climbing through the iron bars to munch on the tourists and they even ignored their lazy turtle neighbors. Excuse me, Mister Bellman, there's an alligator in my room.... Note to self, if you hear scuffling on the carpet outside your door, do NOT open the door without your running shoes on.

We painted roses until the seagulls came home in sunny Florida today. Tomorrow we tackle sunflowers and, if they cooperate and open a bit more, some tulips, too!
