Stand By You by artist Pat Meyer

12 x 16 Oil on linen

Red in flowers stands for love and life while white stands for death.  For Mother's day we wear red if our Mom's are alive and white if they have passed away.  This painting is letting us know life always endures even over death if we know our heavenly father.

Wow those poppies were so inspiring I had to continue to paint them into a larger garden scene. If you recall I did a small piece called Shriner Poppies in honor of my Uncle and Dad always selling poppies for the Shriners Cripple Childrens Hospital.  The movement of these glorious flowers and their bright red colors just make you feel happy.

Garden is Waiting by artist Pat Meyer

Last week I purchased the yellow pansies for my class and the students loved painting them.  Well I could not resist painting them for myself.  The addition of the red flowers and little purple flowers for contrast.  I placed them in my blue garden bowl and now all I can think about is getting ready for Spring.

Shriner Poppies by artist Pat Meyer

Yesterday I was at Lowes looking for some new garden flowers to paint.  Many new little selections to pick from but when I spotted the poppies I went right over to select the perfect pot of poppies.  I had never painted poppies before and didn't know why I had such a strong feeling towards them.  When speaking to my cousin later in the day I was reminded about her Daddy and Mine both selling poppies to raise money for the Shriners Hospital.  These poppies must have been tugging at my heart since we had just lost my uncle this week.  He is now in heaven with  my Daddy his brother and heaven is rejoicing.  I am glad I painted the poppies for them.

China Blue by artist Pat Meyer

16 x 12 oil on linen
shown at
Mary Martin Gallery
Charleston, SC.

How romantic and dreamy this vase was to paint.  By adding the roses to the color zone it gave me a sense of calm beauty.  Layering loads of color and texture to the blue china vase added depth, So it's personality could appear. With the main rose in attendance to give balance to the colors all are happy and relaxed in this painting.

A girl just can't have more fun than this designing up a pansy painting.  Using my favorite dish filled with pansies.  The party continues with adding a pot of pansies and a few pansies in the glass goblet.  To balance out the colors adding several oranges in the painting.  Hope you see the party attitude of all theses pansies.

Tuscan Pansies by artist Pat Meyer

Pansies are some of my favorite flowers and when I witness their smiling faces in the Spring garden it makes me so happy.  With Easter behind us and MOM'S day coming soon I can't help but remember the days I use to plant pansies in a milk container and give to my dear Mom for Mother's day.  Guess that is one of the reasons I like these flowers so much is because of the great memories they provide.

Oh My Winter Flowers by artist Pat Meyer

8 x 10 oil on linen panel

This beautiful bright flower was a surprise this Spring when it started blooming in the yard.  It spoke to me amongst all the brown earth that surrounded this stunning bloom.  She became the perfect model to show off her brilliant pink bloom.  While trying to balance the painting with a supporting cast of friends the lemons were added to lend their joyous colors and help point you back to the queen of the ball the pink flower.  May the earth provide beautiful things for you to enjoy all year.

BRA 5 by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord
For purchase information click HERE.

This is the second painting completed for the Daily Paintworks Challenge.  "BRA 4" was painted on a white gessobord.  "BRA 5" was painted on a gessobord that I painted black.  Each painting has its own palette and with this painting I used fewer brush strokes.  Here they are side by side and as you can see each has its unique look.  This was a challenge I enjoyed very much!

Face No. 35 by Linda Popple

12x6 Oil on Panel

Well, I have to say that when I saw this mugshot I wondered what he was looking at. Was it a bug on the ceiling? An interesting light fixture? Or maybe something imaginary? He made an interesting painting and one that I may re-visit sometime.

Virginia Floyd asked me what I have learned while painting these faces. Thank you, Virginia, for your question, it made me think and attempt to put into words those specific elements. First, and I think foremost, I have gained another level of confidence. Many artists suggest painting the same subject over and over and I am learning the truth to this. I don't think it matters what subject is chosen, just something that inspires you. As I became familiar with my subject I realized that I want to be looser and freer with my brush strokes. I have learned more about the importance of temperature changes in skin tones and I have a more acute appreciation of the planes of the face which are crucial to those changes in temperature, values, color, edges and brush strokes. I could go on and on about all the elements that we encounter and discover with each painting. Bottom line is that learning continues every day and if we're lucky we have someone like Virginia to encourage those of us (like me!) who aren't adept with words and writing. So, thanks again for your question, Virginia, which helped me to think and grasp the basic components of my learning experience!
