Spring Training White Roses and a Hill Country Workshop by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Spring Training White Roses
by Nancy Medina
12X12
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Spring Training White Roses is the newest daily on the easel in Flower Mound Studio, which is bereft of many accoutrements as we have loaded up the truck in preparation for a trip to the Hill Country tomorrow. I sure hope ya'll will come on out and say howdy if you're there! I'll be teaching a 3-day workshop, and have a featured art night at The Good Art Company Gallery, just up the street from the kolache bakery. I love going to Fredericksburg, Texas, to teach and to visit. This historic town is so unspoiled, and there is so much to see there. I even have my new mobile phone app, Night Sky, to try out so think positive thoughts for clear night skies for me, I want to see some constellations in an area far from large city lights! It's not too late, there are still a few seats left in my workshop. I've had a few gals with very well trained hubbies register this week as their Mom's day presents.

You are cordially invited to join me in historic Fredericksburg, Texas, amidst rolling hills, cabins, beautiful vistas, and awesome German bakeries for a perfect workshop retreat!

SOLD ~ Spring White Roses and Woodpecker Suet From Scratch by Nancy Medina

Spring White Roses
by Nancy Medina

SOLD

16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Spring White Roses is a new daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, and it’s been a very busy day with my assistants. I found a recipe for woodpecker suet online, and decided the time was right to give it a try. My mother’s house in East Texas attracts several kinds of woodpeckers, even a Pileated that stops by once in a great while, and these colorful birds are one of my favorites to watch from her back porch.Visit my art blog today to read more about my suet-making adventure and see the recipe!

White Roses and a New Workshop by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Wayfarer White Roses

Oil on Linen Panel

Because my spring workshops are full, I have opened a new 2-day workshop February 15-16. Put a little joy in your brush and let's make flowers bloom in brilliant colors, even though it's a bit early for spring blossoms to appear!

Wayfarer White Roses was based on the flowers of Coronado, California, and has graced the cover of the Dallas Arboretum Adult Education Catalog and Web site. I've revived these blossoms to celebrate the announcement today of the Dallas Arboretum Blooms Festival coming up this spring. It's the best time to visit the gardens and get a few hundred photos of tulips, azaleas, pansies, daffodils, cherry blossoms, and dozens of other flowers all blooming simultaneously! It's been a great week for my little home grown art studio, and I learned today that my painting Cuties and Hydrangeas received first place for the national Bold Brush People's Choice Award contest. Thank you to everyone who voted!

Monsoon White Roses by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Monsoon Roses by Nancy Medina
16X20
Oil on Linen Board

Monsoon Roses is a new oil painting, named in honor of the monsoon style downpour that hit Arizona one night while we slept. The hubby and I were on vacation in Scottsdale and were told these big storms are common after dark at this time of year. The umbrellas outside the little cafe where we have breakfast were tossed about and broken as if a giant went bowling on Main Street yesterday evening. I know the critters and cactus here are happy with this big, cool drink of water!

Growing Light White Roses by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Growing Light White Roses ~ Detail
36X48 Container Garden
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Growing Light White Roses is a detail from my newest project. Take a peek at my art blog to see the latest 36X48 container garden blooming in the studio. My favorite Coronado Island, California gallery called with a request for a painting with reds, whites, and yellows, terra cotta pots and some woven basket pots. I'm hoping to finish this up tomorrow because - oh yes! I have to pack for my art show on July 6 in Fredericksburg, Texas! I sure hope to see you at The Good Art Company Gallery Friday night if you are in the Hill Country. Stop by and say howdy and eat some snacks with me and let's talk art!

Tea Time White Rose by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Tea Time White Rose by Nancy Medina
8X10
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Tea Time White Rose is the Newest painting in the studio, as I begin work on a container garden for my favorite Coronado CA gallery, begin packing for my 3-day workshop in Fredericksburg, Texas, next weekend, and finish framing new paintings for my solo show at The Good Art Company Gallery Friday night.  All these sound like pressing issues, but truly the most important Saturday task has been throwing the new ice cream cone toy for Studio Director AnnieBee. The pictures on my art blog were taken of her majesty as she stationed herself strategically in front of my easel at least a dozen times today, in exactly this pose. I know dogs cannot talk, but I am definitely getting a sense of her message.

Summer Tapestry White Roses by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Summer Tapestry White Roses

Summer Tapestry White Roses is a new small study in Flower Mound Studio, as I prepare to do a 30X40 painting of an outdoor white rose garden. In the meantime I'm packing up new artwork to take for my show at The Good Art Company Gallery next Friday evening, and supplies for a workshop there Friday through Sunday. It's going to be a total girls' weekend, driving up with a dear painty pal friend who always makes me giggle. The school at Baron's Creekside Resort sits at the top of a hill with cabins stretching out below, and is absolutely beautiful. The space around the school is peaceful and unspoiled and the light that comes in through the school windows is perfect.

The more I paint, the more I am becoming a strong believer in good energy, and surrounding yourself with the things in life you love, shedding toxic things, toxic influences. My studio has become a bit of a sacred space, and I am very sensitive to that and try hard to always keep it that way. I shared these thoughts with my class in Irving, Texas, last week, and one of the students agreed enthusiastically, saying that she has incorporated those same thoughts into her life since her battle with breast cancer. She had just had her reconstruction surgery and looked amazing, healthy, and full of life. Wherever your sacred space is in your home, or even if it is in your garden, keep it filled with good energy, good intentions and prayers. It will carry you through, because in reality, it is the space that is you, and you are beautiful. You are worth loving, and you are sacred.

White Roses and the Story of My Great-Grandmother's Haunted Bedroom by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Blue Satin White Roses by Nancy Medina

It was definitely time for a change of pace in the studio, so we put the sunflowers in the kitchen, and turned our attention to white roses today in Flower Mound Studio. These roses remind me of a chipped china cup in my great grandmother's kitchen in Palestine, Texas. She lived in a big old two story house all alone, had her own garden out back, and was completely independent, despite having been blind since she was in her 20s. Visit my art blog to read more about my great-grandmother, and the Peacock Bedroom, which she assured my sisters and I was haunted.

Season Finale White Roses by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Season Finale White Roses
by Nancy Medina
11X14
Oil on Linen Board

Season Finale White Roses is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, as I prep a 60X48 canvas for a new large container garden for my favorite gallery in Coronado, CA. I finished work on my first flower painting video today, Sunflower Daisy Divas, and now I have to figure out how to download, share, market, give away, use as promo? All those business side of the brain thoughts slow me down a bit from time to time, the best solution is to pick up the brushes and get lost in front of a blank canvas. Stay tuned to my art blog, I'll definitely have a sunflower painting video to share with you soon! In the meantime, I had to pay tribute to these white roses I found at the grocery store. They are as beautiful as any of the expensive $3 a stem lovelies I buy from Central Market *sound of harps* - and they were in the bargain bucket at Kroger! Tonight they are fully open, and tomorrow will be their last day to shine. Thank you white roses, for sharing your essence and your beauty in my studio today!

Orange Parfait White Rose Bouquet is the newest painting in the Flower Mound Studio. We are still in a bit of a celebratory mood, now that Hannah the rescue pug has become an official part of our family. Her adoption contract was signed today and mailed to DFW Pug Rescue. It was a perfect way to start the holiday weekend! I hope you have something wonderful to celebrate this weekend, even if it just the love of a little four-footed friend.

Check out my art blog today to see Orange Parfait White Rose Bouquet for you step by step. Put a little joy in your brush and join me for a flower painting workshop this summer! Read more about my workshops....

Free Fall White Roses Step by Step and New Workshops by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Free Fall White Roses
by Nancy Medina
18X18
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Free Fall White Roses is a new work in the studio. I'm excited to announce my new North Texas workshops at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts in Irving, Texas in June and August. For those who are not familiar with North Texas, the Jaycee Center is just a few miles from DFW International Airport. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby, and it's super convenient for those coming from out of town.

We'll be painting summer flowers in oils, working from fresh flowers. I'll do a demo in the mornings, and then we'll paint together in the afternoons. And the question that is on all of the minds of former students, no doubt.... will there be donuts? Yes! And I promise I won't let them slide off the passenger seat of the car and into the floor with the lid open.

To celebrate all this good news, I'm sharing on my blog today step by step Free Fall White Roses, plus a secret about how to "enhance" your rose models for a painting! PS, I already ate all the Dove chocolate and didn't share any of it with the hubby tonight. I'm not ashamed to say it was delicious. And I would do it all over again.

The models take a bow!
