Hill Country Sunflowers and Roses was my demo painting for my students during my Texas Hill Country workshop this past weekend. The Fredericksburg, Texas grocery store always has a top notch selection of flowers, so we painted quite a variety of blossoms from the studio school on the resort overlooking log cabins and trees for miles around. It was like a slice of heaven right outside the door!

My next workshop is on July 21 in Dallas and is already full with a waiting list, so it looks like I'll have to make the sacrifice and go shopping at Central Market *sound of harps* for scads of gorgeous blossoms again this week!

I thought it only fitting you should also see the little four footed furry obstacles who like to plant themselves squarely in front of my easel. It wouldn't be art if it wasn't challenging to reach the canvas, right?

Growing Light White Roses is a detail from my newest project. Take a peek at my art blog to see the latest 36X48 container garden blooming in the studio. My favorite Coronado Island, California gallery called with a request for a painting with reds, whites, and yellows, terra cotta pots and some woven basket pots. I'm hoping to finish this up tomorrow because - oh yes! I have to pack for my art show on July 6 in Fredericksburg, Texas! Summer Night is the newest container garden in Flower Mound Studio, and a painting that has been under construction for a few days now - my studio models held up beautifully, but I don't think tomorrow they will be quite as perky due to the muggy, warm weather in Flower Mound. Tonight I'll have to spritz and spray and water, hoping these blossoms will survive just a few more days despite the bright lights in the studio.

I'll be taking many of these elements with me when I host my next 3-day workshop in Fredericksburg, Texas, July 6, 7 and 8 at the Good Art Company School. We'll be painting a variety of these fresh flowers during the workshop, and I can hardly wait to get back to this beautiful Hill Country setting. The Good Art Company School at Baron's Creekside Resort is the absolute perfect place to paint, with tons of sightseeing, shopping, and pastry shops nearby. We'll be painting each day from 8 am to 3 pm so we will have time to do a little shopping downtown in the afternoons. If the hubby stays home, I can visit my favorite quilt store with absolutely no adult supervision whatsoever!

Afternoon Delight is one in a series of 36X36 floralscapes featuring flowers from my back porch container garden. The bright path into the painting was created over layers of yellows and an ochre underpainting and I used warm red violets to give the shadows some glow. Afternoon Delight is on display at Stems Gallery in historic Grapevine, Texas. If you stop by Stems, say howdy to Pat, the owner, and give Sandy, the official four-footed greeter, a pat upon her silky head for me. They love visitors! If you're in Grapevine, you'll also want to mosey across the street to The Bakery and try to fresh croissants or a cheese danish or two....or three.
