Greens Straight Out of the Garden by V. Bridges-Hoyt

ART. Painted alla prima in the studio, this was a joy to paint. People say to me "turnip greens?" and I answer Yes! Turnip greens remind me of my time growing up on the farm. Somewhere I have a photo of my mom and my toddler children gathering vegetables out of the garden. This one was painted pretty much straight out of my mind. So here you see my impression of Greens Straight out of the Garden. This is an oil painting on 16 x 20 inch canvas. Frame not included. Monitors vary in color matching. Typically I get a pretty good match, but this original painting has greener leaves than the image on my monitor. I'll be donating a portion of sale proceeds to Texas Children's Cancer Center.  #9025 Greens

Shadows on the Wall ~ An Abstract Figurative Painting by Nancy Standlee

"Shadows on the Wall"

18 x 18"
Acrylic on Canvas, 3/4" profile

I worked on this today while painting with Canvas by Canvas at our rented studio space while taking a break and in between working on a large zebra painting for a collaboration. After I look at the above painting with fresh eyes tomorrow, it may not look like this again.
It was nice to get back to painting today as for the past 3 days and evenings, I've been updating my web site. It had been neglected for updates for a year and was getting stale. I've added some new work so you've invited to take a look.

This painting is one of my entries for the Preservation is the Art of the City Show September 11-26 at the Community Arts Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Fifty local artists are selected to participate by a jury and a portion of sales will help fund preservation programming for Historic Fort Worth. I am working on 9 entries for this show and the above is the largest.
This is the disappearing painting. It was posted on DPOT at one time but the image has disappeared so here is the image and information again.

Indigo Floral Duet #1 ~ Acrylic Floral ~ Winsor Newton ~ by Nancy Standlee

"Indigo Floral Duet #1"

Acrylic 12 x 12 in. (3/4 in. depth) Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Contact NancyStandlee@sbcglobal.net

This blue floral has texture with some stamping and drawing into the paint with a Derwent Sketching Wash 8 B drawing pencil and lots of negative painting. I will post #2 later and the paintings may be purchased separately or as a pair.

Winsor Newton Artist Opportunity

Winsor & Newton New Acrylics
W & N has developed a new line of acrylics that does not color shift from wet to dry. They are using a translucent binder when wet and it dries clear. The paints remain workable 20% longer than the Finity brand and they are not in the U.S. yet but watch for them. While you're on that home page be sure and click on the red paint spot near the bottom to enter a painting in their competition. You might win some art supplies. No jury here just other artists voting for their favorite painting. This phase closes Sept. 30 and then you can enter again. I entered "Her Wings Were Never Seen" and you can read more about it on my recent post on the Nancy Standlee Art Blog.

After you enter you will receive some code to place on your blog or web site such as this below. Vote for me or enter your own work or do both. Let me know if you enter and I'll vote for you.

"Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind." 1 Peter 3:8

The Painting: Different strokes for different folks. It was a laid back two day period working on this light impressionistic piece. This is a 24 x 24 inch canvas and I used Holbein Duo Oils in multiple layers. Most of the area is in wide brush, but parts are in a 1/4 inch brush. Quite a departure from my norm of expressionism and abstract.

I love all the art on this blog. I have to confess I often feel out of place with my contemporary horses. They are not the norm are they? I can paint "the Norm" but usually as I approach the canvas the spirit with in wants to play in colors. Perhaps it is my age...or my need to release creativity.

Posting here is incredible to watch everything else that pops up daily. What a fabulous group of Texas Artists.

Cherries aLa Pink Limoge

This painting was so much fun to work on as I absolutely love reds...all of them. My daughter collects "wedding band china" so I have an unlimited supply of references for my setups and this pink Limoge is a particular favorite. My passion seems to be painting crystal and glass and my flowerbeds are glorious this year so I am cursed with wanting to take photographs almost every day. Between the flowers and the crystal, I'll never run out of subjects.

On one of our trips to NY for a gallery show, we flew into Rochester NY and spent some time in the Finger Lake Region of upper state NY. This was from a series of photos I took of children playing in Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful day and the water was quite inviting!
