Pelicans and seagulls were done while I was in Port Bolivar. It was as special day as my grandson was painting with me.

We  had fun and this boat sat in the bay waiting to be painted. The pelicans and seagulls were everywhere.  The painting is signed and framed. It  measures  16″ x 12″

Violet Sky Sunflower Solo was one of a few new paintings progressing in Flower Mound Studio, including a rendition of one of my favorite birds, the Roseate Spoonbill. I love these birds because they are...pink! I'm still working on this little feathered fellow, right now he looks a bit like he's just survived a hurricane, so his plumes need combing and his legs need a shave, too, while we're at it! Today the hubby came home from work with a bug, so I've been nursing hubby, obeying the pugs, and painting. At least I'm getting my exercise, not to mention reacquainting myself with that room I rarely enter, the kitchen. There's a big white square thing with fire coming out of it, I'm pretty sure that's the stove. Thank goodness they invented the microwave, though. I shudder to think what would happen if I turned on that thing that produces actual flames.

I took a little break from peonies this evening to paint one of my favorite visitors to Mom's feeder, the red Cardinal. Each time I arrive at the farm in East Texas, the first thing I do is refill the feeders and replenish the woodpeckers with homemade suet. The horses always stand at the fence and snuffle and whinny until I give them each a big bite of the peanut butter infused suet. I think this is their absolute favorite treat.

Little Blue Bluebird is inspired by the bluebirds from my Mother's feeder in East Texas. I just returned from a visit over the river and through the woods to the farm, to see Mom, and an added bonus is seeing all the winged visitors. As soon as I arrive, I fill the feeders and replenish the woodpeckers with homemade suet. This trip I had the treat of seeing a red bellied (larger) woodpecker, among the other varieties. Lots of cardinals, too, and big funny crows cawing and diving in for the big treats. I don't mind the crows so much, I've heard they keep the hawks away! I'm already preparing for my first workshop of 2014. Put a little joy in your brush and join me for 3 days of making flowers bloom in brilliant color! Read more...

Mates for Life - Thaw Malin iii

"Mates for Life", this is a Small painting, 6"x 8", oil on canvas panel.

These swans found me as I was wandering along this shore line contemplating what to paint . They floated from around the corner and seemed unconcerned with my activities of setting up. Of course it did help that I, well, we were in the lee of an ESE 6 mph breeze. The sun was cutting through the light cloud-cover and I felt toasty warm in just hat and vest for overclothes. As soon as I had the swans painted in position on my canvas the breeze swung to the NE, heading right at us. The birds swam on to another cove. I was grateful for my hooded parka in amongst my gear to get me through to the finish...
