Winter Garden Tulips
by Nancy Medina
12X16
Oil on Linen Panel

Winter Garden Tulips is the final painting I'll be able to squeeze out of my exhausted studio model flowers. As you can see in the photo, several collapsed on the tabletop shortly after the painting was finished. You just can't find good flower help anymore, I tell ya!!

French Rest Stop Sunflower Garden - Flower and Landscape Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

French Rest Stop Sunflower Garden
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

French Rest Stop is a new sunflower garden in Flower Mound Studio, I was needing some warm color to chase away the winter chill and fused some of my favorite photos from my back yard garden along with my trip to France together to create this little floral-scape. My adirondack chairs are bright blue, so I shifted their color to white so they wouldn't compete with my blue flower beds in the foreground. I'm imagining a nice warm summer day, with temps in the high 90s, and an icy glass of lemonade nearby...

Friendly Hotel Alligators and Rainwater Roses in Sunny Florida - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

Class Demonstration

When I saw the little boy hopping up and down at 7 am this morning in my hotel lobby and pointing, I thought maybe he really liked the koi pond here at the Gaylord Palms. Imagine my surprise when I saw what he was really excited about - the resident gators! Fortunately these leathery little guys didn't seem too interested in climbing through the iron bars to munch on the tourists and they even ignored their lazy turtle neighbors. Excuse me, Mister Bellman, there's an alligator in my room.... Note to self, if you hear scuffling on the carpet outside your door, do NOT open the door without your running shoes on.

We painted roses until the seagulls came home in sunny Florida today. Tomorrow we tackle sunflowers and, if they cooperate and open a bit more, some tulips, too!

Dreams of Summer Hydrangeas and Painting Florida Flowers - Nancy Medina Art

Dreams of Summer Hydrangeas
by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration

20X16
Oil on Linen Panel

We hit the flower jackpot in Florida yesterday, my hostess with the most-ess Ann drove me to a warehouse of fresh flowers as soon as I landed in the sunshine state yesterday. On top of that, she failed to restrain me in any way, shape, or fashion, as I tossed fresh peonies, hydrangeas, Japanese iris, daisies, delphiniums, and all sorts of other colorful plants onto our my shopping cart. Oh, and a few new vases, too, (because one can never have too many sparkley vases....).  Today we painted hydrangeas until the seagulls came home, and tomorrow we're going to warm up our pink brushs with some lovely roses and peonies. I do so appreciate my flower models. They don't fidget, they don't complain about the bright lights, they don't eat much and never, ever show up for a shoot after partying all night with bags under their eyes.  Read more....

Rush Hour Rooster and Speeding Toward the New Year - Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

http://nancymedina.com

Rush Hour Rooster
by Nancy Medina
10X10
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Rush Hour Rooster was one of the most colorful personalities I met while visiting San Juan Bautista Mission in Central California. He and his harem were in a quite a hurry when I nabbed a few photos - after all, the dinner bell was ringing! I can't think of a better way to show the new year has clearly exceeded some speed limits arriving - can you believe it's 2015? Before we know it, it will be 2035 and we'll all be living on space pods with faux ocean breezes blowing in through our hologram beach scene windows! Hopefully warm beach scenes.....

I hope you have had a wonderful 2014 - I asked my art friends to share their favorite 2014 memories on my Facebook page this week, and the winning entry will receive an original 20X16 hydrangea painting. Some of the entries made me cry, some made me laugh, you can see them all right here. I'd love to hear from you. Thank you so much for joining me for this wild and crazy, artful and colorful year. May 2015 bring you incredible amounts of color and joy!

Class Demonstration

Maroon Cascade Peonies was my class demonstration in North Texas, as I pack up supplies for my Florida workshop. I've learned how to juggle supplies between overlapping events and workshops, and always have at least three easels, two sets of traveling paints, and multiple palettes and turp cans all juggling about simultaneously.

I've learned an easy way to carry my wet paintings home - I call it the Gallery Wrap Pancake Stack. Read more...

" She did not know" A painting by Anthony A. González

"She did not know"

I like the look and pose in this painting. She sits and looks
not knowing what is not in view. This all adds a little mystery to
the painting.

SOLD ~ Soft Landing White Hydrangea by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

 Soft Landing White Hydrangea
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Soft Landing White Hydrangea was my afternoon step by step paint-along for class today in a beautiful lakeside town, Rockwall, Texas. Earlier in the day, we finished up our stock painting (flowers similar to larkspur) and this morning I completed a 16X20 pink rose painting, courtesy of the pink roses growing just outside our studio door, in the park. As I clipped away at pink roses in the park to add to the painting, a concerned jogger raised an eyebrow at me. I assured her we would be painting these, it was for a good cause, the rose would be memorialized for all time ad infinitum, and it was all sanctioned and blessed by the local art club. By then she was half a mile away. I'm not sure if she heard me, but I felt a little less guilty...

Angels Among Us Pink Rose Solo by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Angels Among Us, Pink Rose Solo
8X10
Oil on Archival Panel

I had an angel on my shoulder as I painted tonight. It's great to have elves to help with cleanup, little pugs to snore and make me laugh while I work, and a dear husband who tells me he loves me every day. But to have an angel with you is an immeasurable gift, and one I have no idea how to repay. Years ago, a woman named Emily Leland contacted me out of the blue. She wanted to help me get into a gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas, called The Good Art Company. She invited me to visit, and encouraged me to bring my art, and introduced me to the gallery owner, providing a ringing endorsement. I remember sitting with her at one of the outdoor tables at Rather Sweet, eating the best homemade cheese danish I had ever had, and watching as she greeted everyone who came into the shop that morning. Everyone in town knew her. I could tell, everyone who knew her, liked Emily. Read more...
