This one was a little different for me, but I liked the challenge and loved the textures. I shot the source image in North Carolina. My husband and I rented a cabin and explored the area with our cameras in hand.

Spring Thaw

Slowly, warmth touches the ice, transforming it. Released from winter’s dormant hold, it begins its decent. Gaining speed and determination, the water now destined to bring life to the landscape. Spring has come again.

"Cola Creek" - Thaw Malin iii

"blank Cola Creek", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

This little stream is known locally as blank Cola Creek. In the autumn when the leaves and acorns fall, a lot get washed into this water shed. Their tannin turns the water the color of blank Cola... (you fill in the blank)

Flow River Flow - Thaw Malin iii

"Flow River Flow", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

Almost missed this one. On any other day, with steady wind in the 25/30 mph range, I would have been sand blasted out of my dune cover. But with a heavy rain last night and early morning, the sand was still packed hard and moist with no chance of a dust up. My parka on and hood up it was a great place to paint and watch the light turn down...
