These models where just going their own way and dancing to their own drummer.  My students wanted a bright simple still life demo of flowers with petals.  Learning to paint petals you must first see them as a value not a petal.  After finishing this demo for them I turned to my students and told them they are my sunshine so that is how this painting got it's name

To my dismay I have been thinking about a new living room furniture but my things are perfectly good so why get rid of it but so wanted a new fresh look for this traiditional space.  Well paint myself a new piece for over the fireplace of colors that are in the space and put a couple of fresh new things in there.  That did the trick.  A couple of new accents pieces along with the painting and new look!  Yippie!!

While at the Garden Center this morning doing a demo a Giant Bumble Bee flew and landed on my painting. Guess he liked the flowers but then fell intothe Cad Yellow Paint which now matched his look. After backing up and giving him his space he flipped over knocked off some of the paint and flew off. Well the guest thought that was very exciting and great demo of Plein Air Painting. Apples and Hydrangeas was my class demonstration this morning, the final day of my workshop in Collerville, Tennessee.  I had a class full of talented artists, and they created sunflowers, blue hydrangeas, and white roses in our afternoon paint-along sessions. Fueled by gourmet donuts and plenty of snacks and coffee, we learned that the teacher sometimes calls apples roses and yellow green, so one must keep a careful eye on that wacky lady. Next stop for this teacher, Florida! Sunshine and alligators, here I come!

This is the 29th painting in 29 days, as the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge is drawing to a close. Did I manage to paint something every day? Yes! *confetti* Tomorrow will be another challenge, since I fly home to Dallas. Let's see if I have the energy to keep up the momentum another day - stay tuned, there may be a pug picture in it for you...!

Roses in Lavender is a new small work in the studio, and we're celebrating some big news. I gave my notice today! It's official - I'm trading my corporate day job to become an - ARTIST! In two weeks you might spot me in my new cardboard box under the I-35 overpass, but there will be a big smile on my face. Yes, I'm terrified. Yes, I'm ecstatic. But it's time, at last, to follow the dream.

I think the absolute best way to celebrate will be to give away a painting this week. Stay tuned to my newsletter to hear who will be receiving flowers that never fade!

In my wash and line technique, Charlie Boy is my pet portrait showing the character of a fine Boxer who was rescued by Lone Star Boxer Rescue in Houston, Texas.

Charlie's foster mom fell in love with and adopted him 4 years ago. Not too long ago, Charlie was diagnosed with mast cell disease. His mom knows that her time with Charlie will be short and reminds herself daily that the quality of time spent with Charlie is more meaningful than their quantity of time together. We would all do well to remember that in our relationships with pets AND people.
