Carpe Diem Coral Rose is the newest small work in the studio, celebrating the countdown to the end of my work in Corporate America! If you subscribe to my newsletter, you have already heard my news. I have given my notice as the director of a magazine and will be devoting all my efforts and time toward my art, and also spending time with my Mom who is in hospice now. Each morning I wake up and feel light as air, like I could float up to the ceiling with this aura of freedom and joy. My sister Kim reminded me of a poem that seemed just right, I wish I could remember who wrote this, do you know?

I wish that my room had a floor
I don't care so much for a door
but this floating around
without touching the ground
is getting to be such a bore!

Roses in Lavender is a new small work in the studio, and we're celebrating some big news. I gave my notice today! It's official - I'm trading my corporate day job to become an - ARTIST! In two weeks you might spot me in my new cardboard box under the I-35 overpass, but there will be a big smile on my face. Yes, I'm terrified. Yes, I'm ecstatic. But it's time, at last, to follow the dream.

I think the absolute best way to celebrate will be to give away a painting this week. Stay tuned to my newsletter to hear who will be receiving flowers that never fade!

Blue Glass Lilies and Hydrangeas is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, based on the lilies that are breathing their last bit of life and which I could not bear to toss today. I loved how they looked with the blue vase, and even though they never quite opened properly, decided to give them one more evening under the spotlight. I found at least one spot where I could lay the end of an orange stamen right on top of that blue glass, one of those little victories!

Today I took our adopted pug, Hannah on an outing, just me and her. Ever since we adopted Hannah, she would get so excited when I put her collar or harness on, and wanted to go with me even if I was just dressing her after her bath. Each time lately, though, the rides have ended up at the vet. This morning when I put her collar on, instead of looking happy, she hung her little head down. That's all it took for me to decide then and there we needed a special Hannah day out! Read more....

This week is my annual half price sale on my Web Site, strategically scheduled right before the holidays, and the response has been overwhelming!

Paintings shipped today to Nova Scotia Canada, Massachusetts, Texas, Georgia, and California. Three more packages will be going out to Georgia tomorrow. I started painting in watercolor when I lived in Santa Barbara, CA, where I used to trade my paintings for furniture and rent. Since then I have moved exclusively to oils. Following an invitation from Joy Ijams Matthews, Director of Education for the Dallas Arboretum one year ago, I became officially, and for the first time, an art teacher. I never dreamed I would love being a teacher so much, but it has become one of the most rewarding things I do (aside of course from hugging Studio Director AnnieBee...!).

Thank you so much to everyone who follows my work, to everyone who has shared words of encouragement, to my students, and for those who have been with me for years now, every step of the journey. The future looks bright, and full of color!

Three of a Kind White Roses was one of the demo paintings I completed for my workshop in Tennessee last weekend. After arriving back in Texas, it was tough heading back to the desk job having just spent a wonderful three days making color happen with a room filled with excited, happy students. I never knew when I began teaching flower painting over a year ago how much I would enjoy it. It's like discovering a new life's passion at the age of 50! It just goes to show it is never too late to have hopes and dreams.

How do you fit one person, four fat pugs, and a big ole canvas in one little ole studio? Determination! Spit and vinegar! Mule-headed-ness! I was in the mood to paint something big and busy, so I piled up some of my favorite flowers and my new red ceramic cup on my awesome rubber maid rolly cart and went to town with the paint. White Roses, Larkspur and Kiwi was my demo painting for class today in Irving, Texas, at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts and the first time I ever painted kiwi. I've shared it with you step by step below, and also some photos of my student's paintings. It was one of those classes where I wanted to grab up all the luscious student paintings and run out of the building saying Mine Mine Mine!!

The kiwi was fun to paint, and I am sure I'll do it again, but I had forgotten to bring a knife so attempted to saw the fruit in half with a pair of blunt scissors, until one of my students whipped out her handy dandy exacto knife and saved the day. Orange Kiss White Roses is based on one of my mother's vases, and a nice big juicy orange she shared with me over the weekend while I was visiting her farm in East Texas. Studio Director AnnieBee always enjoys our girls' weekends at the farm with Mom, it's that special time when she has me all to herself, and does not have to share with anyone. And she's also well aware there are bound to be extra snacks and goodies thrown into the mix, not to mention cousin Abby the Schnauzer's basket of toys that need distributing throughout the living room....much to cousin Abby's consternation.
