Just Sold! Friends sit and gaze at the mass of beauty and indecision that is the menu. The fear of missing out on any number of delectable dishes makes it nearly impossible to chose. Their eyes waver between the menu in their hands and the massive chalk board that dominates the far wall. Mom's meatloaf? Good Luck Reuben? And who could pass up the Sleaziest, Cheesiest, Grilled Cheese in Town? But, then, it is found: Chicken Fried Steak, a delicious staple of home-style comfort food.

Every once and a while, it's nice to share a little home-town spirit. Coming from Dallas, I thought it would be nice to capture a local favorite, Lucky's Cafe, on Oaklawn Ave. Even outside, you can feel the energy that emanates from within and cuts through the heavy blanket of night.

Another one of my adventures to the Dallas West End brought me to  this scene.  The light patterns and the lone guy walking away drew me in.  I really like the way the colors fade in the distance.  The leading lines put you right on the street.

Lights glitter from their hiding places, nestled among the branches, mimicking the gleam of the stars high overhead. The wait staff gather outside, savoring the cool air, their work for the day done. Having left the fast paced world inside of Landry's, they take a moment, and a breath, unwinding with a chat.   The pastels in this piece help the light bleed into the dark, capturing well the inviting warmth of Landry's Seafood. In this scene we get to a changing of the guard, one no less important than any other. The lines guide you in, much like the pedestrians wandering into the scene. Location was the Automobile Building,

Fair Park in Dallas, Texas

Today's painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days.

Here is my set-up at the park.  I wanted the statue to

be the focal point of the painting.  I usually put more

paint on the canvas, but I was trying to lay out the

building and get the the architecture somewhat

correct.  It was a beautiful clear day....and I amped 

up the color of the sky a little bit.  Anyone who knows

me knows that BLUE is my favorite color.

This sweet little lamb was standing at Heritage Village in downtown Dallas.
There were four or five lambs standing in the fenced-in lot staring at the people and cars...as if they were waiting on something or someone. They had a statuesque quality about them.  I did not use a painting medium, so the oils are thick on the linen, giving it some texture.  It will take a while for this one to dry.  If you are interested in purchasing this painting, contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com.  Thanks for viewing....Happy Fourth of July!  KMW

It's inspired by shots I took from the backseat of my car with my Iphone, while husband was driving from Dallas to Austin. The photos were blurry and not great quality but I was trying to capture the beautiful colors of the Texas prairie grass.

This is a view of White Rock Lake from the end of my street. I live on the Peninsula in Dallas, Texas, a quarky little neighborhood with a killer view of the lake. Most people who move in here never leave. The field at the end of my street houses many jack rabbits, ducks and even coyotes. In the spring, if the City doesn't mow, we get an awesome showing of wildflowers.

I wanted to depict a different vantage point of White Rock Lake and I was intrigued by how my camera captured the sunlight peering through the clouds. It almost looks like a beam of light is shining down from heaven! So, I decided to go ahead and paint it that way to suggest an aura of mystery in the scene.

I painted this in honor of my friend, Tiffany Nelson, a breast cancer survivor. She is total clothes horse! As women, we all have those quiet moments while getting ready to go somewhere, trying on outfits to see if they still fit or if this goes with that. After her double mastectomy and "new enhancements", I wondered what she was thinking, how she felt as she got used to her new body – sad, curious, elated? I tried to capture a moment like that with "First New Blouse".
