Cooling Off - Dallas Arboretum

It was so great to meet so many of the Daily Painters of Texas artists yesterday at Dutch Art Gallery. Great Show!! Thank you so much Pam Massar, Laurie Pace, Debbie Lincoln, Kay Wyne and everyone who worked so hard to put this show together. I was inspired (if not feeling guilty) to start blogging again. :) This is a figurative work of my son playing the the "Frog Fountains" at the Dallas Arbortetum. It got a 3rd place at the NLAPW show at The Wine Therapist (reception also last night!)

East Texas Pasture by Susan Moss

oil on canvas on panel
9"x12"

This painting is plein air and painted near Brenham, Texas. I love the colors and texture of Texas brush and fields. I used a palette knife to capture some of these textures. The greens of spring were just starting to come out and mix with the earthy reds and browns from the winter.

Downtown Dallas from White Rock Lake by Susan Moss

Oil on canvas
16" x 20"

sold

This is a view of White Rock Lake from the end of my street. I live on the Peninsula in Dallas, Texas, a quarky little neighborhood with a killer view of the lake. Most people who move in here never leave. The field at the end of my street houses many jack rabbits, ducks and even coyotes. In the spring, if the City doesn't mow, we get an awesome showing of wildflowers.

Beachcomber by Susan Moss

Oil on canvas on panel
9" x 9"
sold

I recently started doing a little figurative work. I like to keep it loose, using my palette knife. This is my god-son, Tyler at the Jersey shore. I'm working on a few more pieces of children at the beach.

First New Blouse by Susan Moss

9" x 9"
oil on canvas on panel
sold

I painted this in honor of my friend, Tiffany Nelson, a breast cancer survivor. She is total clothes horse! As women, we all have those quiet moments while getting ready to go somewhere, trying on outfits to see if they still fit or if this goes with that.
After her double mastectomy and "new enhancements", I wondered what she was thinking, how she felt as she got used to her new body – sad, curious, elated? I tried to capture a moment like that with "First New Blouse".

Azaleas, Dallas Arboretum by Susan Moss

oil on canvas on panel
8.5" x 8.5"

I painted this in plein air with the Outdoor Painters Society at the Dallas Arboretum. The Azaleas were in full bloom and the weather was perfect. Not much time for plein air these days with my 2 year old son but I love to do it when I can!
