Morning Aspens by Kay Wyne

Morning Aspens

48" x 72" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Dallas.  We have finally moved into some cooler weather, and it was the perfect day for an Art Deck Show.  Our hosts for the show provided a lovely deck with a beautiful yard.  There were eight artists from the Tutti i Lunedi painting group.  This painting sold and will travel to Harbor Springs, Michigan to hang in the collector's new home.  Thanks to all of you who came to the show to show your support.  It was a great day.  Enjoy your Sunday.  Kay

24" x 18" Oil on Canvas
Ready to be framed!
This painting will be an entry for the Artists of Texas Annual Show at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas to be held in November and December. The colors are crisp and clear, just like you would see on a brisk fall day. I used the brush and palette knife on this painting...there is plenty of texture. I hope to frame this painting in a black floater frame. Thanks for viewing this blog, Kay

Aspens by Kay Wyne

This contemporary aspen painting is getting ready to be hung in a show next week. It is a 30" x 30" gallery wrap canvas. I need to name it and inventory it before it leaves the studio today. Morning Aspens by Kay Wyne

Morning Aspens
48" x 72" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is finished and hanging in our home to dry. When I started this painting, I had three things going on in my head about the direction that I wanted to take. I wanted to use my brush, not the palette knife. I made a decision to put green in the painting, even though it is my least favorite color and I have issues with it when I paint. I wanted to experiment with transparent colors. So, keeping these three things in my mind, I set out to paint this colorful and contemporary abstract aspen painting. Getting the paints to blend and progress from one color to another was easy with the brush. I used some new wide, flat brushes. I did not want texture and thick paint. I was able to limit the green by putting the green in first, and letting it sit...I did not go back in and rework any of the green after the initial application. I did use the palette knife on the tree trunks, but did a lot of scraping-not leaving huge amounts of paint on the canvas. I was pleased with the outcome of this painting, and like the way the colors are bouncing around. I hope that you find this painting pleasing to the eye. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art. Beach Bums by Kay Wyne

Beach Bums...A commission that has been delivered. It is an oil painting on a 12" x 12" gallery wrap canvas. This painting was inspired by a photograph of the ocean while a couple was sitting on the beach. I loved this picture, and when the couple got engaged, sweet Sarah asked me to paint it so she could give to Taylor as a wedding gift. So, here it is, and Taylor and Sarah are married, moved in a new apartment on the east coast and starting a new life together. Congratulations to Sarah and Taylor! Kay

On Fire by Kay Wyne

On Fire
Oil on 48" x 48" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Palette Knife Painting
On Fire not only describes this painting, but my day. I had a cluster goof-ups that happened over and over...It must been the red hot Texas heat getting to me. On Fire is a contemporary abstract painting that started out as a horizon painting....and the horizon is there. But, I saw trees in a cluster.....and then they were on fire. So if you stand back from the painting and look at it, you can see the forest, the fire in several places smoldering, and the smoke. This was an exciting painting to paint because it was constantly changing. I used a limited color palette along with the palette knife. When you are viewing this painting up close, you can see the depth and the texture. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art! Kay

Dragonfly Dreams by Kay Wyne

Dragonfly Dreams
30" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This abstract evolved after going through several different stages. When I first started this painting, I though I wanted to paint an abstract. Then at one point it was going to be a horizon series painting. You can see where the horizon line is...and then after putting some color on the the canvas, I saw a dragonfly and proceeded to incorporate that image along with some geometric shapes, lines and texture. I used brushes, palette knives and oil sticks on this painting. I like the shape and size of the canvas...thanks for viewing this blog! Have a great day on this Memorial Day. I will be in the studio painting away!

Looking At You by Kay Wyne

Looking At You
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
This colorful rooster is eyeing you! He was one of the roosters that I photographed on the Dallas Chicken Coop Tour last year.....he wasn't this colorful. I got carried away with the color....the violets, blues, crimson, and even some magenta. I used a wide brush on most of him...This fine feathered friend has attitude and will be looking for a new home. He was shipped to a gallery in Santa Fe this morning....very early this morning. Thanks for looking at this blog and my art. Kay

Contemporary Aspens by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Aspens
I just finished these aspens today. They are on a 12" x 48" Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas...very tall and narrow. The oils are thick and buttery...it will take weeks for this to dry. I was inspired by a photograph taken by Sara Settles in Colorado...of course I added my own flair to the trees and landscape. I haven't had time to really think about the title for this painting...if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks for viewing this blog.

Horse Race - Untitled, Unfinished - by Kay Wyne

Horse Race - Untitled, probably not finished,
but almost finsihed...does that make sense?
I have been working on this painting for two weeks. I thought I was finished, so I signed it and took a photograph today at the studio. Now that I am looking at it on the computer, I see several things that need attention. So I will go back tomorrow and make a few brush strokes on this very wet canvas. It is oil on 16" x 20" canvas. It will need a frame, probably a gold or dark wood moulding would look best. Will post more on this painting later. It is cold and chilly in Dallas today...got a fire going and watching football now that I am home. I hope that you are having a great holiday with family and friends. Contact me if you are interested in purchasing any of my paintings. Thanks, Kay 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027 by Kay Wyne

Horizon Series: Abstract 1027
Oil on 22" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas
This abstract went through alot of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a dark piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This contemporary abstract is on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. It is ready to hang! Thanks so much for viewing this blog. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Have a great day! Kay

Rudy Rooster by Kay Wyne

Rudy
12" x 16" Oil on Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
I finally finished a painting yesterday. I have many paintings going, and either I am stuck or uninspired to work on them. This guy is very wet...I really layered the paint on with the knife. I think he will look great framed up in a dark wood moulding. Thanks for viewing this blog.
Please contact me if you are interested in this painting...it would make a great Christmas gift for someone! kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.

Demo at Dutch Art Gallery by Kay Wyne

Here is a pic of the demo that I did at Dutch Art Gallery yesterday. I started by toning the canvas with a warm grey. Then began putting the paint on with my palette knife. I had taped off some of the larger areas that would eventually have titanium white so that the white would not get muddy or streaked. The canvas is 36" x 36" so it will take a while to get it covered with paint...it will take alot of paint for sure.

The day went by fast because there were alot of people stopping in. Pam had a constant stream of framing customers, and then there were those who came in to see the Artists of Texas Annual show, Where Texas Finds It's Color... artistsofTexas.orgArtistofTexas.blogspot.comDailyPaintersofTexas.blogspot

I hope to take this canvas to the studio today and work on it. Thanks for viewing this blog. Thanks for stopping in at The Dutch Art Gallery to see the show. Kay
