How romantic and dreamy this vase was to paint.  By adding the roses to the color zone it gave me a sense of calm beauty.  Layering loads of color and texture to the blue china vase added depth, So it's personality could appear. With the main rose in attendance to give balance to the colors all are happy and relaxed in this painting.

Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting

Northern Michigan is beautiful in the summertime, and we just returned from a Charlevoix ten day family vacation. I took my easel, shipped my paints and had a grand time painting the landscape.Kay  The first day I arrived I found the most beautiful garden in the backyard of Chris Heroy's cottage.  I immediately went to visit her and get permission to set up in her yard.  Chris gave me a tour and snipped off some lovely homegrown roses and put in a beautiful antique glass jar.  Here is a pic of Chris' roses.  Thank you to Gilda for purchasing "Homegrown"...this painting will have a new home in Little Rock, Arkansas!  Thanks for looking at this blog...more Michigan paintings are coming!  Contact Kay for more info on my art.  KMW

Many times we want to be the one and only you see.  This is what I saw after painting this small painting.  There are many roses in this painting but the center rose was the one and only I really looked at in the beginning.  May you be the one and only for someone to see.

Roses for some reason make me think of special occassions and these models were getting ready to be place on the table as the center piece for dinner.  The sweet smell of the roses and their bright colors made for an enchanting time.
