Title   Abstract of a Palm Tree
medium oils on canvas
Size  20" x 16"
Signed by Artist Barbara Haviland
I started this painting to have a background on the white canvas. The more paint I put on the more the palm tree evolved. I used a palette knife with textures and only use Yellow Ochre,Cad Yellow Light, tiny bits of purple and White for this painting. The paint is very thick and would make a wonderful gift or to be added to your collection

SOLD ~ Coronado Island Color, White Roses by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Coronado Island Color, White Roses
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
11X14
Oil on Museum Quality Linen Panel

Coronado Island Color, White Roses, is the newest daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, and is number 16 in the 30 in 30 Challenge by California artist Leslie Saeta! Tomorrow will be a real challenge, since I'll be packing for my demonstration for the Highland Arts Guild in Marble Falls on Thursday morning - will I be able to complete and post a painting and get all prepped for the big event, in addition to taking multiple breaks to throw the toy du jour for the studio director all day? Stay tuned to see if it all works out....!

French Tulips by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

French Tulips by Nancy Medina
18X18
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

It's been a super busy few days. I'm not quite sure what's in the wind, but the unseasonably warm weather has brought good tidings for Flower Mound studio. Two of my workshops are now full, and new paintings are heading to homes and doctor's offices in South Carolina, Australia, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Maryland. The hubby and I paid a visit to Central Market today *insert sound of harps* to pick up a few things Mom said she's been craving. Pate, fresh bread, a scrumptious bleu cheese log, and the makings for lasagna from scratch filled our cart. But I could not depart the premises without these divine French tulips! I carried them lovingly to the register, worrying that the clerk would set them down on the counter, bruising their lovely petals. Fortunately, I found a sensitive soul ringing up my canned goods. She handled these white blossoms with love and tenderness as she scanned the price tag *gulp* and handed them to me as if they were made of hand blown glass. Painting them today, my French tulips opened so quickly and peaked so rapidly that by tomorrow morning, I will have to bid them adieu. I'll be taking homemade lasagna to the farm in the morning. The hubby made it from scratch for Mom, but I get to be the hero carrying it into her house! *sound of trumpets* Such good things, these small glories, and tomorrow I can hardly wait to see Mom again.

Midnight Lilies by Nancy Medina
16X20
Oil on Museum Quality Linen Panel

Midnight Lilies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio. Midnight was named in honor of the very late hour when it was painted! I'm packing up paints and supplies for a workshop in Irving, Texas this weekend, and am excited to see my students arrive Friday morning, including a few coming from out of state. Stay tuned to my art blog - I'll be sharing pictures of three days of painting flowers in North Texas!

You know how you can do something so much that
you can never imagine forgetting how to do it?

Well...I bought this fabric to make a dress. I haven't
sewn anything in 20 years. What possessed me to start
back with an invisible zipper and lining is beyond me.
It was a disaster!

Fortunately, it was not a complete loss since I was able
to pair it with this bright red cup.

Opening 5 Miles Out - Thaw Malin iii

"Opening 5 Miles Out"

"Opening 5 Miles Out", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

The day had been partly sunny and now partly cloudy. It was a tough choice of where to find the light right. I worked my way through 2 different wood lots until I decided on this long, distant view...

Squibnocket Rain - Thaw Malin iii

"Squibnocket Rain"

"Squibnocket Rain", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

It poured rain most of today. I resigned myself to sitting in my van and painting a land or seascape. Not as much fun as standing outside and working, but another option. It rained all the way up on the drive to the beach. When I parked in a spot overlooking the surf, the drizzle stopped too. I was able to get out and work as the mist and fog ebbed and flowed along the farther reaches of the beach until it became too dark to distinguish colors, mine or the beachscape...

Farm Pond Moon Rise - Thaw Malin iii

"Farm Pond Moon Rise"

"Farm Pond Moon Rise", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

I used my compass and the astronomy info from wunderground.com to figure out the correct direction for today's moonrise. I checked with Google Maps satellite view to choose this location. My intuition told me it was a good place, but I just wasn't sure about that stand of cedars on the opposite shore... The moon had it's own plan and did not reveal itself until about 10 minutes after officially rising. At that point it was well above the trees...

Sailing Camp - Thaw Malin iii

"Sailing Camp"

"Sailing Camp", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

I never know what to expect when I visit the Sailing Camp. Sometimes the vessels are all stacked up on shore and other times they are out on their moorings. They maybe close to the beach or farther out. This time 4 of the rowing, (I would guess), boats were all berthed down in the corner of the cove on one mooring. They were kind of playing follow the leader and trying to line up all heading into the breeze. Then one would get out of formation and would jerk the line attached to its neighbor and suddenly they would all do an about face...

August, Mill Pond - Thaw Malin iii

"August, Mill Pond"

"August, Mill Pond", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

Clouds threatened from a distance and made a dour end of a pleasant day. I set up just slightly off the tarmac in some bushes so the traffic would could not bother me. A few friends spotted me as they drove by, but they were past before they could give a shout out. I painted into the dark until the passing headlight began to disturb my view. After packing up, I rushed to the gas dock in Menemsha and jigged up 5 squid for a late dinner treat...
