Last week after teaching my workshop these colorful roses were left over.  Well off to the studio to become models for a landscape rose garden painting.  My favorite rose was the white one going away from me with all it's little brown spot areas.  It is like allot of us with character.  When choosing models I will always go with the person that has more character to their face and personality.  They have more of a story of life to tell.  Which is your favorite rose and ask yourself why.

The nice handicap gentleman that works at our self service car was was giving out carnations for Valentines this year.  He is always at work helping others.  A big thank you to him for the wonderful service he gives.  My sweet hubby gave me the roses for Valentines but I was so moved by his gesture of the carnations I added them to this still life set up.

With the new transitional home styles I have been getting request to do some abstract pieces.  This commission piece was done for a house with grey tone walls and they wanted something in the grey family.  I used a nocturnal  lake scene to be the inspiration to the piece.

Some days you just love to have some quiet in your life.  This morning I arrived in the studio to see my Sunflowers still staring back at me.  Well there is packing, shipping, blogging, contracts and framing.  These are all none painting activities.  The Sunflowers are waiting quietly in the corner saying, come paint just a small something to make you feel good.  They are such wonderful models I just could not resist.  So this small floral appeared.  Now off to tackle all these other things but the soul is soothed.

One of my dear students Dedra gave me these beautiful oak leaf blossoms.  They produced these wonderful colors as they dried out.  The pumpkin and it's warm colors seem to harmonize with them. Working with the techniques of the palette knife on the pumpkin to add texture and interest.  The contrast of the smooth vase to the textural pumpkin created a great visual.
