When starting the demo for class the students requested that I approach this painting in a abstract manner.  Yippee something different.  The same thought process goes into an abstract painting. The direction of light the shadow planes and of course drawing is still involved.

This week in the workshop will be discussing how to take a single flower and punch up it's power.  This has been a fun process getting ready for the workshop doing this painting.  Start with which flower is the focal and make the colors more intense and add a high drama background to really showcase the subject.

This spring at the flower nursery my eye was fixed upon this double begonia.  It spoke to my heart so of course it had to go home with me.  The first painting of the begonia was painted in a still life set up and was so fun.  But then my thoughts turned to something a little more abstract of the flower so this piece was developed.

The last of the pansies are blooming so beautifully in the yard and I just hate to pull them up but it is time for the summer flowers to be planted.  There are 2 pots of smiling faces still in the backyard that will just have to wait to go.  They seem to be in all their glory so the summer plants will just have to wait.

With the new transitional home styles I have been getting request to do some abstract pieces.  This commission piece was done for a house with grey tone walls and they wanted something in the grey family.  I used a nocturnal  lake scene to be the inspiration to the piece.
