Pink Larkspur Daisy Duet is the newest daily painting in the studio today. I felt just a bit like I was cheating, since I was painting instead of working on tags and inventory sheets for my show at the Dallas Arboretum April 26-27. All the paintings are stacked neatly into categories, leaning against walls and furniture throughout my house, hither and yon. I did take a bit of a break earlier today, the hubby and I went to World Market and got a few new adirondack chairs - check out my art blog today to see what the color Baltic Blue looks like! I got the impression Howard Pee Pugpants approved of the new chair, although I cannot say for certain, since I don't speak Pug....

What on earth does a full time artist do all day? It's not all sleeping late and watching reality TV. In fact, I cannot remember the last time I watched TV. It has been years since I sat on a couch for more than three minutes. This is not whining, I'm just too excited about what's going on in the studio to sit still for more than three minutes these days! In two weeks, it will be my One Year Anniversary of my Departure From Corporate America. I clocked out. I hopped off the treadmill. I jumped off the cliff into the abyss of hopes and dreams and launched my own business. In the first 6 months, I wondered every single day if I would be able to pay the bills. I lay awake at night adding numbers in my head. The water bill, the Toyota payment. The tax bills *gulp*.

One year later, did I make it? Did I at least come close to reaching the same six-figure salary I had in corporate America? The answer is: Read more....

We painted daisies and peach and fuschia bougainvillea in my Fort Lauderdale, Florida, workshop last week. Ladies from New Hampshire, Ontario Canada, Utah, Virginia, New Jersey, Colorado, Michigan and all across Florida converged for palm trees, sunny skies and florals on canvas. Those of us not from Florida shook off the winter chill and put on our super fancy flip flops (the ones with the blingy accessories you can change according to what color your outfit is that day). The artist in particular made sure she got a peddy before embarking on this quest to the sunshine state! Stay tuned to my art blog for more paintings from class, coming up right here on the bloggy!

We painted bougainvillea and daisies in my Fort Lauderdale, Florida workshop this morning. What fun to paint with ladies from Utah, Canada, New Hampshire, Minnesota and across Florida today. We did not spot any gators, but we did see plenty of flowers blooming! It's always good to paint with palm trees swaying outside the classroom window, don't you agree? I fear my sunflower models will be just a petal in the book of flower history tomorrow, they are fading fast. Fortunately I have new batches of extra wispy (yes, I request them extra wispy) daisies and some fat new blue delphiniums, which were all on sale at the new Market Street *sound of harps* in town.

I'm tickled to announce my very first event in Flower Mound, Texas - I've been invited by the new Market Street to do a live painting demonstration in the store for their special bridal event March 1 and 2. I'll be painting just inside the front door by the flowers and the concierge desk. Yes, of course Market Street has a concierge desk. One never knows what important yummy item one might require assistance acquiring, after all, and for me, yummy items usually have stems and flowers and sit in a vase on a shelf. I do hope you will drop by and say Howdy Neighbor, Texas friends, and see me painting in my very own town. The details are below, can't wait to see you, tell Siri to put it on your calendar and not to pretend she doesn't understand what you're saying or call you by your husband's name - and did I mention my easel will be about 20 yards from the pastry case?

Daisy Jungle is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, and there is not an inch of counter space open this evening, I bought so many bunches of fresh flowers today! My Valentine's workshop is fast approaching, (we'll be Painting Romantic Flowers and Dresses!) and I found tulips that were just breathtaking, among dozens of other blossoms and yet another new vase. This one I simply could not pass up. You'll see a photo of it on my art blog when it makes its debut in just a few days!

Daisy Dance is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, a bit of riotous color and movement to shake things up and get the blood stirring on a chilly wintry day. I start flagging a bit around 5 pm-ish and treat myself to a chocolate mocha coffee lest I find myself slipping into pug-type habits such as afternoon naps and only getting out of bed for treats.

Today I took not one but two trips to our new market in town for fresh flowers, and came home with a bundle of fresh pink peonies, more delphiniums, and a handful of pink roses I just could not resist. Oh yes, and another new vase. In my own defense, I did break one of my favorite vases yesterday, so felt justified in bringing another one home to join my growing collection. I'm sure at this point I am in violation of a city ordinance restricting a household to ownership of no more than 250 vases or four metric tons of glassware at a time.

It was a banner day in the workshop classroom, with paint flying hither and yon, flashbulbs popping, and lots of giggling and visiting. I always love to step back and enjoy the chatter and excitement of a room full of ladies exchanging emails, places they love to visit, pictures of their kids and furbabies, and generally having a ball. Workshops, to me, are a gift you give yourself for all that you give to others. They are a place of peace, a place of healing, a place to rejuvenate and recharge and enjoy color and flowers.

We give so much of ourselves to our families, friends and jobs, it is good to once in a while give something back to ourselves. My workshops start each day with a large demonstration painting. In the afternoons, we work together step by step on a favorite flower of choice. My students are beginner to advanced, working in oils, water based oils and acrylics, and benefit from a technique that encourages a loose, fresh approach to making bright colors sing. Thank you to the marvelous group of talented artists who spent these past three days with me. I am so grateful to my students for all they share with me, and all they teach me. Not to mention helping me eat all those donuts!

Daisy Chain Daisies and Larkspur was my class demonstration this morning for my Valentine's Weekend Workshop in Irving, Texas. We had such a fun painting session today and this talented group of ladies produced some of the prettiest blue hydrangeas I have ever seen! I was also very proud that even though we were a small group, they assisted me in putting an admirable dent in the box of double glazed chocolate covered donuts without complaint or hesitation whatsoever.

There was not a single sunflower to be found at Central Market *sound of harps* when I went flower shopping for this workshop a few days ago. Granted it was Valentine's week. Granted the well trained husbands were all lined up with their smart phones and business casual attire, queuing politely and awaiting each of their hand picked bouquets for their honeys. As I silently saluted these wonderful guys for not stopping at the gas station for their sweetheart's gifts, I also wondered which was the culprit who scarfed up all the sunflowers! No worries, once I spotted those bright yellow daisies, all was well in the flower world again, and the balance and order of all things colorful was restored.

I found bundles of daisies at the grocery store today, when I stopped in to buy lettuce for salad. This week the pickings in the floral department were slim, daisies, carnations, and the bargain bin filled with some very nice lilies. I could have selected the lilies, but I wanted to give these simple daisies a day in the spotlight. Take a bow daisies!

Oranges and Daisies is a new painting, created in my Mom's kitchen last night. I painted Oranges and Daisies on an archival surface I had never used before, and was so happy with how the painting turned out. My sister's fiance, Gary, brought me a package of these art panels as a gift. His brother has created, patented, and manufactures these from his own company. Imagine my surprise! Now all we need is a hairdresser, a veterinarian, and a doctor in the family and we're all set!

The next morning when I checked the quality of the paint, to see if the board soaked up my pigment or had any adverse reactions to the oils, I was so excited to see the color still looked fresh and bright. I'm going to order more of these panels and add them to my supply list, so stay tuned! For a peek at all my favorite supplies, with links to purchase them, on my workshop page.

Don't Worry Daisies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, which I've shared with you step be step on my art blog today, and it occurred to me quite suddenly I have a solo art show next Friday in Fredericksburg, Texas! Not to mention a 3-day workshop that starts the day before. Time to start framing up these dozens and dozens of new paintings, and pick and choose who gets to go and who stays. Fortunately I've been on a bit of a painting spree for about four years now, so while there's plenty of new inventory, I also have to be careful to choose the paintings that are thoroughly dry.

Her majesty AnnieBee won't be joining me this year, since I will be spinning a few plates with the workshop happening at the same time as the show, and particularly since any time I am out of her sight for more than 2 seconds she lets out the infamous stuck pig squeal. This noise has been known to shatter double paned storm windows and cause every human within hearing distance to become absolutely convinced she is being treated improperly and her mama is most assuredly inflicting the worst kind of neglect imaginable on her little self. It's amusing until it happens in a beautiful gallery surrounded by the glitterati...! I hope you'll join me in Freddy-burg next week, stop in and say hello and eat something yummy and let's have a glass of wine together, or come on out for 3 days and paint pretty flowers with me. I'll save a seat for you. Just look for the gal with green paint on her pug apron.
