Little Red Rooster by Kay Wyne

Little Red Rooster
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Rooster and Chicken Series
This small painting is loose, colorful and playful.
Thick paint was applied with a filbert --- you can
see globs of oil and the paint oozing onto the
canvas.  I had originally painted a rooster who
was stiff, and looked like a statue, so I totally
repainted him and had fun doing so.
This painting is available for sale.
Contact Kay for purchasing info.
Have an artful day...Kay

First Rooster by Kay Wyne

First Rooster
20" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
I am in the studio these days working on a commission, and took a break to paint this fun rooster.  It's 2017 --- The Year of the Rooster.  This is my first rooster to paint this year, so I named it "First Rooster".  Using a large filbert brush, I scrubbed over an old painting, so there are colors peaking through.  I did not go into any details with this colorful rooster---I used generous amounts of straight paint (no medium) so some of the brush marks are thick, others are thin.  This painterly rooster is drying in the studio, but will be looking for a new home!  Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks for looking...KMW

Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Sunshine
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
This small rooster is dry now and ready for a new home.  I think Sunshine would look great on a kitchen wall or sitting on a countertop.  I painted this colorful rooster so that he is nestled in the grass, and pops with the contrasting black background.  I used a wide flat bright brush all the way on this fine feathered friend...you can see the spontaneous strokes in the grass and the feathers.  Contact Kay for more info on Sunshine.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Kaleidoscope Rooster by Kay Wyne

Kaleidoscope Rooster
18" x 18" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
This caged up rooster wants a new home.  He is colorful and full of personality as he is perched in his cage.  He was painted with thick strokes of oils, giving the canvas texture along with colorful energy.  My painting was loose and expressive, and the color palette was a bit different for me...just pushing myself to paint outside of the box.  I certainly didn't put any limitations on myself.  The canvas is a bit abstract and playful with the bright and contrasting colors vibrating against each other.  This painting is ready to hang...framing is optional, as the sides of the canvas is painted. Contact Kay for more information on this contemporary painting.  Thanks for looking.....KMW

Flamboyant Feathers by Kay Wyne

Flamboyant Feathers
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
This rooster was so much fun to paint, with almost every color on my palette on the canvas...I kept the lines disjointed, loose, all with different size brushes.  I started with a dark background (my new thing) which makes the foreground pop.  Flamboyant Feathers is for sale....contact KAY for more info on this guy.  Framing is optional...he looks good as is, and ready to hang on a wall.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Sunshine
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
I have been experimenting with dark backgrounds, and this rooster pops with such a dramatic contrast.  I named this rooster Sunshine because of all of the colors in his feathers and comb.  He reminds me of a colorful sunny day.  The sides of the canvas are also painted black, so a frame is not necessary.  Contact Kay for purchasing info...Sunshine is drying at the studio before he takes off.

Georgie Boy by Kay Wyne - Sold

Georgie Boy
Sold
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
George has flown away from Dutch Art Gallery, and I am thrilled to report that he has a new home!  Thanks to gallery owner Pam Massar for selling Georgie Boy to a Dallas collector.  George is a handsome Buff Orpington rooster, and is the mascot at our local Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands.  I painted this 12" x 12" canvas several months ago in the gallery with George sitting on the counter.  I wanted to get his beautiful feathers and full body in this painting.  I loved layering the paint to get a full-chested and fluffy George on canvas using my palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...I guess I need to paint another Georgie soon!  Kay

Gertrude by Kay Wyne

Gertrude
8" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Rooster and Chicken Series
$100
Gertrude is a small chicken painted on a panel.  I used a new Monarch Bright #10 on this painting...there is nothing like painting with a new brush!  It was really cold and windy outside, so I don't feel like I got a great photo...will need to re-do that.  Her comb is heavy and falling off the canvas.  Contact Kay for info on Gertrude.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Big Red by Kay Wyne

Big Red
4" x 4" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Rooster Painting
$75
This little rooster --- even though he is called Big Red, has bold brushstrokes, and is a very simple painting.  You can see the strokes on the cotton panel.  It was way too cold for me to go outside and photograph-I usually take all of my pics in natural light outside the studio.  So there is a little shine on the panel.  I have a shorthorn started and he is sitting on my easel...I can't wait to get to the studio today to work on him.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Itty-Bitty by Kay Wyne

Itty-Bitty
3" x 3" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
This little rooster is all framed up and ready to find a new home!  Pam Massar Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas asked me to paint a small rooster in a very small frame...painting on a 3" x 3" canvas is challenging....I prefer a 30" x 30"!!!!  But, I pulled out two new brushes that were tiny, and here's my results.  As you can see, I am holding the frame and it is small!  Thus, the name of this rooster is Itty-Bitty.  I have four more smalls that I am working on, along with a commission for a Christmas gift...more painting today!  Thanks for looking...Kay
