Here in Texas, we have delicious oysters from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Theese particular ones were from Galveston Bay. A squirt of lemon and quick dip into cocktail sauce (heavy on the horseradish) make this a welcome appetizer. Like potato chips, though, you can’t eat just one!

On Ice by Suzy Pal Powell

This was a fun watercolor! I used a size 38 brush, which is huge, 

but it kept me from being too picky with putting the color down. 

After I painted it and it was dry, 

I used a bamboo calligraphy pen and using waterproof ink, 

drew the black lines.  16x20 with a mat and frame.

I switched gears a bit today, painting bright orange and red koi, since I had piles of reds from two new dresses this week. As soon as I finished this painting, these little koi went directly into hibernation due to extreme cold in North Texas! It's been a super busy day, with a private lesson, a trip to the shipper to send off nine paintings to new homes, and packing up for my first workshop of the new year starting in North Texas Thursday. Put a little joy in your brush and join me, there are few seats left - I'll save you a donut!

Those people at the Genius Bar work fast and now I have my computer home!  As Martha Stewart says, "It's a good thing!"

This fish painting began as a salmon, but I really don't know what it is now.  However I like him - or it could be a her.  He was fun to  paint.

Fish: Friend or Foe? is an interesting article from the Harvard School of Public Health concerning the pros and cons of having fish as part of your diet.  If you would like to read what Harvard has to say on the subject I've included the link.

"Against the Stream" Koi acrylic painting by Rebecca Zook

I like people who think for themselves and don't just follow the crowd. The painting can viewed as simply being about beautiful fish, but the one that many people might not immediately see the beauty in, is swimming the opposite direction. A little hidden meaning.

I'm really pleased with the way the scales turned out on the silver koi. I applied multiple thin layers of paint to achieve it.
