Sparrow's Garden | Cat in Garden Setting by Rebecca Zook

Art Therapy
Post 7

Today was garden therapy for me as well as part of Friday and Saturday. I weeded about half of what I need to, moved several plants around, planted some bareroot daylilies, caladium bulbs and lantana I bought before COVID and marveled at what has already started blooming and the plants that are returning.

This piece is titled "Sparrow's Garden" and shows one of our cats in my garden. My good friend has the original. She is one of those wonderful people that traps and neuter/spays feral cats and finds home for any kittens. Sparrow was one of those kittens.

Salsa by Food Artist Kristine Kainer

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
20x20

Though summer has ended, autumn has still not taken hold of central Texas.  My garden continues to produce tomatoes and peppers of all kinds.  Also, my little potted lemon tree is, in reality, a lime tree.  What better way to celebrate the vibrant flavors of this produce than to make salsa?

Australian Blue Pumpkin by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Canvas
Purchase Information

"When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin' turkey-cock,
And the clackin' of the guineys, and the cluckin' of the hens,
And the rooster's hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
O, it's then's the times a feller is a-feelin' at his best,
With the risin' sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
As he leaves the house, bareheaded, and goes out to feed the stock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock."

Morning Sun Pink Hollyhocks by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Morning Sun Pink Hollyhocks
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Morning Sun Pink Hollyhocks is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, a scene from my visit last month to the mountains of Utah. The girls and I were driving up a winding country lane when we spotted a massive garden of hollyhocks in every color your heart could desire, there were lipstick red, red wine black, pale pink, white, and hot pink. I whipped out my new IPad and went to town taking pictures, I love using my IPad for photography now, instead of lugging around my heavy Canon when I travel. I just slip my IPad into my purse, and off I go!

Morning Sun is my 25th entry in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge, and I'm all packed and ready for my Tennessee workshop this weekend. SUH-Weet tea drinkers, here I come! Stay tuned to the art bloggy for pictures of my Tennessee flower painting workshop, you may see some familiar faces!

Day 7 ~ Against the Sky White Poppies and an Art Winner Announced by Nancy Medina

Against the Sky White Poppies
by Nancy Medina
12X12
Palette Knife/Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Against the Sky White Poppies is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, and painting number 7 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge brainstormed, created and led by the talented Leslie Saeta. It's been a super busy day, I finished up a big ole (that's a technical term) container garden painting, packed up a few boxes to ship to Tennessee for my upcoming workshop, and managed to obey the Studio Director on at least three occasions with trips outside to throw the toy du jour for her majesty.

Without further ado (how does one spell ado?) the winner of my first artwork giveaway during the 30 in 30 Challenge month is  Donna Dale Abbott! Congrats Miss Donna! Everyone toss some confetti for Donna and give her a big cheer. And don't despair if you didn't win, remember, there are four more works of art I'll be giving away between now and October!

Tableau Bleu Iris Garden and Goodbye Gifts by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Tableau Bleu Iris Garden
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Panel

Tableu Bleu is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, honoring a late blooming iris in my garden this week. The nights are growing cooler, but my iris is blooming again, the one with the oldest provenance from prize stock. It's like a tiny goodbye gift from summer

Painting with Plants

The miniature irises in my garden are the first to herald the coming Spring. From that point until the first freeze a battle ensues. My drive to paint pitted again a passion to dig in the dirt. My garden is an ever evolving living canvas. Plants are my paints. I play with their colors, textures and placement in much the same way. I have favorites that I come back to year after year, but new plants are explored with some succeeding, some failing. It's a learning process.

About the painting:

This piece, "Mum Shadows," is from a photo I took last Fall in my garden. The mums grow next to a sandstone boulder and I was attracted to the long blue shadows they cast onto the rock. They are of equal importance to this piece as the flowers themselves. I likely painted the first flower 5 different times trying to work out the best method of portraying the petals to stay true to the plant. Unlike the uniform, structured pots of mums that can be purchased each fall, I like to let mine grow back year after year so that they take on a more natural appearance. This piece will be on display

in the historic downtown square in Granbury, Texas for the Gardens of Granbury and Glen Rose painting and photography show April 27th through May 1st at Granbury Square Plaza. Stop by. I'll be painting both Friday and Saturday nights. I haven't signed it yet. I'm fighting with myself on whether it should horizontal or vertical.

Fiddlehead Farm - Thaw Malin iii

"Fiddlehead Farm"

"Fiddlehead Farm" , this is a Small painting, 6"x 8", oil on canvas panel

I have been watching this view for two months, waiting for the garden to max out with flowers and vegetables. It is not often one finds a simple white backdrop for emphasizing the middleground. The weather was just a step away from rain. So there were definitely no shadows to accentuate or complicate the scene...

If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US.
