Peach Color Rose, Pastel by Judy Wilder Dalton

A quick study of a beautiful peach color rose. Took a photo at the Tyler Rose garden in Tyler, Texas. It was such a rich peachy orange color. This is very abstract in the expression. I think I will paint this again and again.  This small painting is available for a limited time on Daily Paintworks Auction.

Waterfall Trail by Judy Wilder Dalton

We have many beautiful nature trails at Holly Lake Ranch, where I live.  I love this one called the waterfall trail.
There are endless treasures to focus on while walking this trail. This one is from this past fall.  Each season brings great color and textures to the woods.

Texas Sunflower Painting by V. Bridges Hoyt

A sunflower created out of mixed media—pencil, watercolor, gold permanent paint pen, ink pen and pastel Conte pencils. In the light, the gold paint accents glimmer. It seems impossible to pick up the shiny gold paint on a camera image.

#110919
SUNFLOWER GOLD II • 5x5 inches • mixed media

You'll find more information on this painting and more of my art at my blog Texas Sauce Art Life at TXsauce.blogspot.com. For purchase info, email Vernita at txsauce@txsauce.net.

Around the Bend

"Around the Bend" ©2009 Niki Gulley
24" x 36" • pastel • SOLD

Here is a commission piece that I've recently completed on one of my favorite subjects – autumn. I enjoyed experimenting with the interplay of colors amongst the foliage and creating a sense of mystery with what lays beyond the pathway.

Autumn Birches

"Autumn Birches" ©2009 Niki Gulley
pastel 4" x 10"

With summer ending, I'm getting excited about fall's approach. I love when there's a chill in the air and the leaves start turning colors. Having grown up in the north, I really miss the birch trees with their knotted bark and gorgeous colors. Painting them transports me home!

Queen Ann's Lace

"Queen Ann's Lace" ©2009 Niki Gulley
pastel 7" x 5"

I set up a floral still life in my studio, and particularly liked this close-up of the Queen Ann's Lace. Having grown up in Illinois, they've always been one of my favorite wildflowers from up north.

Sunburst, White Rock Lake

"Sunburst, White Rock Lake" ©2009 Niki Gulley
pastel • 8" x 10"

I wanted to depict a different vantage point of White Rock Lake and I was intrigued by how my camera captured the sunlight peering through the clouds. It almost looks like a beam of light is shining down from heaven! So, I decided to go ahead and paint it that way to suggest an aura of mystery in the scene.

Impressions II, White Rock Lake

"Impressions II, White Rock Lake" ©2009 Niki Gulley
5" x 7" pastel

Today I revisited the same location at White Rock Lake as earlier in the week, but I wanted to paint it completely different this time. I love vibrant color and playing with contrasts in my subject, so today I really had fun. Hope you do, too!
