Sunny Days Container Garden and a Missouri Workshop by Nancy Medina

Sunny Days Container Garden
30X40
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canavs

Class Demonstration
SOLD

Sunny Days was my class demonstration at my Lee's Summit, Missouri workshop yesterday morning. Connie Turner's Art Studio, our hostesses beautiful domain, had a yard filled with potted plants in full bloom, so we brought the outside IN and created our very own container garden. This was the charter class for Connie's place, and it was a honor to teach such a talented group of ladies. We painted sunflowers, hollyhocks, and red geraniums, feasted on lunch spreads and desserts (evidentiary photographic documentation provided here) and giggled and painted every day, sometimes simultaneously because we gals, we can multitask like that. This class in Lee's Summit, Missouri, filled up so quick we've created another one for next October - You can sign up and join us below. For you St. Louis ladies who were with us this weekend, I'll see you gals for another sold out workshop in two weeks to teach for the Greater St Louis Art Association! Turn the thermostat down to 68 and warm up your brushes in my home town and I'll see you under the arch!

High Altitude Yellow Roses and a North Texas Workshop by Nancy Medina

High Altitude Yellow Roses
by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration

16X20
Oil on Archival Panel

High Altitude Yellow Roses was my class demonstration this morning. Roses can be a tough subject to tackle in a workshop, so I shared a tip with my students: deconstruct the fresh rose you are painting. Tear off every petal, leaving about 10 petals only. Focus, with a good light source, just on those petals. Simplify your life. Simplify your rose. You are the boss of your flowers! Thus, the cascade of loose yellow petals in the foreground of my setup, below. I love finding ways to make flower painting easier. Put a little joy in your brush and let's make brilliant flowers bloom in oils! June and July are full, but there are still seats open in August!

Early to Rise Pink and Red Poppies of the Texas Hill Country by Nancy Medina

Early to Rise Pink and Red Poppies
by Nancy Medina
11X14
Oil on Museum Quality Linen Panel

Early to Rise Pink and Red Poppies is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, as I begin work on a large Texas landscape for a beautiful Flower Mound home. These poppies are based on the field of tossing and turning blossoms at Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg, Texas last week. The wind never rested while I snapped photos as quickly as I could - one must tread carefully when photographing outdoor flowers in Texas, watching especially for fire ants! Happily, I was not attacked by the awful little beasties during this photoshoot. Like a big flower game hunter, I carried home hundreds of new flower photos, much preferred over hundreds of new ant bites...

SOLD ~ Sweet Dreams Poppies and a Fredericksburg Art Show by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Sweet Dreams Poppies
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Sometimes I feel the need to express color brightly, boldly, and so thick you would need a knife and a fork to cut into it! I've been working until midnight every night for weeks preparing for upcoming workshops, my show in Fredericksburg this weekend at The Good Art Company Gallery, and all of the exciting new challenges of my full time job as an artist. How thankful I am to be able to follow my dream. I am in a state of absolute euphoric exhaustion. This is how I want to live my life, and spend my days, rushing headlong toward a dream and a life filled with color. Thank you to everyone who has joined me for the journey. Tomorrow morning, I think we all deserve donuts, what do you think?

You are cordially invited to join me in historic Fredericksburg, Texas, amidst rolling hills, cabins, beautiful vistas, and awesome German bakeries for a perfect workshop retreat!

SOLD ~ Coronado Flower Cottage and a Solo Show on the Island by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Coronado Island Flower Cottage
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

I'm packing paints, brushes, and palette in the suitcase for my solo show on Coronado Island, near San Diego, California Saturday, April 20. I'll be creating a new container garden at Art and Frames by Wood Gallery that day, and painting in their beautiful back yard garden from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. I sure hope all my San Diego friends have a chance to come by and heckle me cheer me on! This year is the 88th anniversary of the Flower Show on the Island.

Here is a slide show from past years to give you an idea of the absolute amazing color you will encounter if you make it out to the island this time of year. If you are out there and you see some very odd lady with paint on her clothes standing in people's yards taking pictures like crazy, be sure to wave, it will be me!

Yellow Glow Sunflowers and Hydrangeas by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Yellow Glow Sunflowers
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Yellow Glow Sunflowers is a new small work on the easel in Flower Mound Studio. The boss was very demanding today, tossing her new squeaky turtle toy at my feet on at least three occasions, insisting I get some fresh air away from the studio, and play in the yard with her. It's a tough job painting full time and working from home with my helpers, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Oil on Archival Panel

Two of a Kind Hydrangeas is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and feels a bit like one of my small daily paintings after the days I've spent on a few four foot container gardens! AnnieBee and I packed up our favorite pillows and toys and headed to the farm to spend time with Mom this morning. We're looking forward to movie night and popcorn. I hope you have a nice weekend ahead with comfy spots to rest and little cuties to snuggle with!
