I Love Barrel Racing! - western figurative oil painting of horse and rider barrel racing

Here's a finished - and I hope - an improved version of the earlier post.   (Thank you Hilda!)  Barrel racing is a cross between grace and athleticism and - wow - the relationship between horse and rider is beautiful to behold!  There aren't ever enough participants at the rodeo, but I probably feel that way  because I could watch endlessly!  There will be more western paintings because I have sketches and photos from the rodeo and dances here (Junction, Texas) in August.  I painted this piece on 12 x 9" panel.  To see more of my artwork, please click here to visit my blog at Hackberry Street Studio and here to visit my website

The Haubold Homecoming by Kay Wyne

The Haubold Homecoming
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I wanted to capture the excitement, love and big hug when Stacy and Kyle saw each other after months of being thousands of miles apart. The photograph that I used for a reference had more detail, more people and more things going on around the couple. I loved the flowers in his hand as he squeezed sweet Stacy when he came off the submarine. I almost painted in all the people in the background, but I wanted all the focus to be on the couple, and wanted to paint a very simple painting. I used broad, flat brush strokes and bold color. It was a fun painting to paint. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Haubold on the reunion in Hawaii!
And by the way, you have to come to Dallas to pick up your painting.
Merry Christmas from Mama Kay!

Cooling Off - Dallas Arboretum

It was so great to meet so many of the Daily Painters of Texas artists yesterday at Dutch Art Gallery. Great Show!! Thank you so much Pam Massar, Laurie Pace, Debbie Lincoln, Kay Wyne and everyone who worked so hard to put this show together. I was inspired (if not feeling guilty) to start blogging again. :) This is a figurative work of my son playing the the "Frog Fountains" at the Dallas Arbortetum. It got a 3rd place at the NLAPW show at The Wine Therapist (reception also last night!)
