Tender Rain Hydrangeas is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, celebrating a new vase I received from a dear friend. You are invited to join me for my June 21 workshop at the Dallas Arboretum. I love teaching flower painting in the most beautiful gardens in Texas, and this will be a great time of year to get dozens of flower photos during the lunch break! Okay, dozens is a conservative estimate. I've been known to fill up an entire cell phone's worth of memory in 2 hours at the Arboretum before. My husband seems to find this quite astounding, though I'm sure all of you, my flower fanatic friends, are sympathetic to the cause....!

Paradise Garden Hydrangeas and a New 2-Day Flower Painting Workshop by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration

16X20
Oil on Archival Panel

I love walking into Flower Mound Studio a day after a workshop ends, the house is filled with the smell of fresh flowers! This past weekend, gals from Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma converged to create brightly color florals, taking home two or three new paintings each. I painted a large demonstration each morning, and in the afternoons, we completed step by step paint-along flowers together.

I'm absolutely delighted to announce a new 2-day workshop with the Trinity Arts Guild in Bedford, Texas, coming up in June - open to TAG members and non-members alike! What a perfect time of year to make flowers bloom in brilliant colors. Put a little joy in your brush and join me June 8-9 from 9 am to 4 pm. Open to beginners to advanced students, as well as those who work in water based oils and acrylics, I'll share all my favorite tips for painting in a loose, fresh style, making simple strokes of color on a transparent underpainting.

Cuties and Hydrangeas by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Cuties and Hydrangeas is my newest work, finished after a late night of painting. Fortunately, I have six plates of Christmas cookies to keep me fueled up for these chilly evenings in the studio! I have already made a note to self for next year, to make the cookies the day before I plan to give them out to the neighbors, instead of three days before, since for some reason I cannot seem to leave them alone. If I were really smart, I'd be eating the little oranges instead!

Afternoon Blossoms - Hydrangeas by Nancy Medina

I can't wait until the spring blooms and bulbs start making an appearance at the Dallas Arboretum again. The best part about being juried into Artscape in the spring is knowing I will have three days to stroll around the tulips and azaleas on my breaks and to see the park transformed into a world of color. I hope you will join me in the park March 20-21 during the Dallas Blooms event - it's the best time to visit the Arboretum.

Every time I paint a hydrangea I see a color hiding in the blossoms I did not notice before. These flowers are like snowflakes, no two are alike. Shiny Things and Rainbows is one of my more whimsical paintings, I decided this morning not to take life too seriously today, and just have a little fun in the studio.
