Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed The Boat
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is a small palette knife painting that was inspired by a weathered dinghy in a small fishing village in Maine.  I liked the rust and all of the imperfections on the dinghy, and all of the rocks poking up out of the water.  There is texture on this panel....and the painting is framed up in a dark wood moulding with a gold liner.  Ready for a new home!  Contact Kay for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  Kay

On Fire by Kay Wyne

On Fire
Oil on 48" x 48" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Palette Knife Painting
On Fire not only describes this painting, but my day. I had a cluster goof-ups that happened over and over...It must been the red hot Texas heat getting to me. On Fire is a contemporary abstract painting that started out as a horizon painting....and the horizon is there. But, I saw trees in a cluster.....and then they were on fire. So if you stand back from the painting and look at it, you can see the forest, the fire in several places smoldering, and the smoke. This was an exciting painting to paint because it was constantly changing. I used a limited color palette along with the palette knife. When you are viewing this painting up close, you can see the depth and the texture. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art! Kay

Show Flowers by Sheri Jones

Show Flowers by Sheri Jones
16 x 8 oil on Raymar canvas panel
My sister Pam and her husband Dan were in Hawai during the opening reception at my solo show in Granbury. They were unable to attend, but sent these beautiful flowers straight from the island.  It was such a treat to receive this special delivery.  They made a beautiful center piece for the show. I knew I had to paint them.  This was painted with a palette knife.

Bluebonnets and Cactus by Sheri Jones

Bluebonnets and Cactus

I know the bluebonnets aren't blooming yet, but know they are coming. The weather has been beautiful recently and Spring is right around the corner.

I am getting excited about participating in the Paint the Town Paint Out April 15 - 17th. The area has a wealth of inspiration for the plein air painter. The wildflowers should be in full bloom and beautiful.

This painting is available for purchase.

Contemporary Aspens by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Aspens
I just finished these aspens today. They are on a 12" x 48" Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas...very tall and narrow. The oils are thick and buttery...it will take weeks for this to dry. I was inspired by a photograph taken by Sara Settles in Colorado...of course I added my own flair to the trees and landscape. I haven't had time to really think about the title for this painting...if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks for viewing this blog.

Color My Trees by Kay Wyne

Color My Trees
I had to paint a contemporary oil painting with color today. Lots of bright, vibrant color. I needed to put the paint on with thick broad strokes and the palette knife. I am going to let this one sit on my easel for several days and dry. I might go back in and paint some more.....not sure. It is on a gallery wrap canvas. I worked on several pieces at the studio today...had a great day painting with Sharon, Grant and Carol. It was exstremely hot in Dallas today, so painting and staying inside was just what I needed. Thanks for viewing this blog. Kay

New Bluebonnet oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Rhapsody in Blue” ©2010 Niki Gulley
Oil on canvas • 30” x 40”

When I was a teenager my great aunts and grandmother moved to Texas and we would come down to visit them when we got the chance. I remember the first time I saw a massive field of bluebonnets and I was awestruck by the expanse of color and amazed that such tiny flowers when in mass could actually look like a large lake from a distance. I wanted to relive those family memories and recreate the exciting explosion of azure and crimson in Rhapsody in Blue, taking this cool weathered farm house in Marble Falls and painting it engulfed in one of our best bluebonnet and Indian Paintbrush displays.

Rhapsody in Blue has been chosen as the signature painting for my upcoming exhibition at the Frisco Municipal Complex, in honor of winning Best in Show at Frisco’s Arts in the Square. Located at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd., Frisco, TX 75034, I will be exhibiting 20 of my newest oil paintings for the month of September. Here is my interview in Frisco Style Magazine about the upcoming show and some background on myself and my paintings, friscostyle.com/index.php/component/content/article/43/189-august-2010-issue. I hope if you’re near Frisco, you can stop in and see the exhibit!

Aspen Trees by Kay Wyne

Aspen Trees
Palette Knife Painting
Oil on Masonite
This painting has layers and layers of color. I started with a piece of gessoed masonite. Then a layer of venitian red acrylic paint. I was experimenting with the red as a base layer. You can see some of the red coming through on the painting. I learned alot from this painting...and although it was fun, I could not wait to get back to painting on linen or canvas. Many artists paint a base color before they start painting, but for some reason it bothered me to have a solid red base coat...my eye prefers an off-white clean canvas. I have this framed in a handsome black frame...it will be going to the Dutch Art Gallery soon. Thanks for viewing this blog! You can contact me at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.
