When we checked into our B and B in Tuscany this year, we were greeted by beautiful rose gardens surrounding the property. WOW! With such a plethora of gorgeous blooms, it was really hard to narrow down what to paint. Finally I landed on these crimson beauties with a peek at the Tuscan villa in the distance. I adore the cypress trees so indicative of Tuscany so I made sure to include them in the background. I also loved how this ancient twisted vine hugged the scene, creating an organic window of the view beyond. Filled with joy and color, I hope you are transported to this serene escape.

Painting and Photographing Castles with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Since I hand't had my fill of castles yet, I painted yet another majestic fortress in Tuscany. Starting in the afternoon and continuing until it was almost too dark to see any longer, I captured the scene on canvas while Scott photographed the view as the sun was setting. I love the long winding cypress road inviting you to visit. Such a magical evening!

Here is one last rose garden from Tuscany. I couldn't resist, and I just had to create at least one piece with this incredible castle in it. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to complete it on location, but I'll continue refining it at home and above you can see my progress. In this painting, I wanted to accentuate these gorgeous yellow roses as they were sharing their beauty and bringing joy to the setting. Such an inspiring place!

Once we finished leading our Tuscany Foodie Trek, Scott and I extended our adventure since we absolutely love the area so much. What a delight as we checked into our B and B to discover that the grounds were surrounded by rose gardens. WOW! Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley Painting in Tuscany

I couldn't resist painting another day in this beautiful rose garden in Tuscany. Feeling ambitious today and not wanting to be constrained capturing the gorgeous scene on a small canvas, I decided to work much larger. I was attracted to these bountiful climbing roses framing the villa in the distance as they stretched across this arched trellis. Wanting to keep this piece loose and free, I created abstract passages in the scene so these crimson beauties could be the star. Running out of time on location, I'll finish this piece in my studio with a few final touches to pull everything together, but retain the mood of a dreamlike reality.
