36" x 36" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I absolutely love it when I come across a whole field of wildflowers – there is something about the transformation of a single dainty flower into a dense explosion of color that inspires awe and delights your senses. I liked how these rows of poppies and rolling grasses created a gentle harmony, inviting you to wander into the distance, getting lost in the moment. Full of color and hope, may my "Symphony in Springtime" transport you to a happy serene place.

"Rural Blues" Bluebonnet Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Rural Blues" ©2023 Niki Gulley

10" x 20" textured mixed media painting on canvas

On our drive through Ennis this spring, the bluebonnets were so full and thick along Sugar Bush ridge. So, I set up my easel to capture this beautiful, peaceful view. I loved how the undulating hills, tree lines in the distance and wildflowers in the foreground all repeated similar shapes and wave-like patterns adding to the feeling of symmetry and serenity. I hope you, too, can feel the joy and glory of springtime in Texas!

Colorful Rose Garden Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Ruby Blooms" ©2023 Niki Gulley

20" x 10" textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

When we checked into our B and B in Tuscany this year, we were greeted by beautiful rose gardens surrounding the property. WOW! With such a plethora of gorgeous blooms, it was really hard to narrow down what to paint. Finally I landed on these crimson beauties with a peek at the Tuscan villa in the distance. I adore the cypress trees so indicative of Tuscany so I made sure to include them in the background. I also loved how this ancient twisted vine hugged the scene, creating an organic window of the view beyond. Filled with joy and color, I hope you are transported to this serene escape.

"Popping Magic" by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Popping Magic III" ©2023 Niki Gulley

18" x 24" textured acrylic painting on canvas

I painted "Popping Magic III" this spring not too far from my home. This might have been one of the best years for the poppies and wildflowers. The explosion of color was incredible! This morning started out slightly overcast, and the sun kept peeking in and out of the clouds, creating a soft glow to everything it touched. I wanted to capture that radiant light and joyful energy illuminating your journey as you wander through this magical field of blooming glory. I hope you, too, can feel the excitement of springtime with the wildflowers abloom!

"Blossoming Dreams II" Abstract Bluebonnet Painting by Niki Gulley

“Blossoming Dreams II" ©2023 Niki Gulley

24" x 36" textured mixed media painting on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

I wanted to show Texas' spring landscape in a completely different way. Making sure not to over blend my thick strokes so that you could see the marks and feel the energy found in nature. Repeating patterns and waves of color create a harmony within the painting, while rendering the bluebonnets and wildflowers along with their surroundings abstractly plays with taking a traditional subject matter and showing it in a contemporary way. With an aura of mystery, late day light touches the tops of the grasses and hills with glimmers of hope.

New Sunflower Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Sunshine Serenade III" ©2023 Niki Gulley

24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired by our travels to Provence, I painted these uplifting sunflowers with extremely thick oil paint and palette knife so that the resulting image leaps off the canvas and is loaded with energy, color and texture. Bright, smiling faces as big as dinner plates, fill your home with joy and beauty. A quaint stone farmhouse in the distance welcomes you to come in and enjoy the view. Full of warmth and vibrancy, my hope is that when you gaze into this piece, it lifts your spirits and brightens up any spot in your home.

Visiting Vineyards and Wine Tasting with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

"Awaiting Harvest" ©2023 Niki Gulley

16" x 20" textured acrylic painting on canvas panel

In the above painting you can see an example of the vineyards dotting the hills of this Tuscan region. With the weather turning colder, you can see the first signs of fall as these colorful grapevines turn beautiful oranges and golds. I was attracted to the vibrant vines contrasted against the progressive miles of rolling hills dotted with more grapevines, olive trees, and plowed grain fields. The gorgeous, plump purple grapes were ready to harvest at any moment. Setting up my easel across from this vineyard, I began recreating the soft light that would break through the clouds and illuminate various hilltops and plantings. I arranged the vines to lead your eye back to the hill town and the beautiful countryside. I hope you can taste the delicious wine and escape to Tuscany with me!

Abstract Poppy Field Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

“Nature's Brushstrokes II" ©2022 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just Sold! In this painting, I wanted to render vibrant poppies and wildflowers very abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vivid reds and cobalt blues form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of blooming glory. Mysterious light tries to break through the distant foliage and  begin to illuminate the blossoms, beckoning you to explore what's beyond.

"Waltz of the Sunflowers" New Palette Knife Painting by Niki Gulley

"Waltz of the Sunflowers" ©2023 Niki Gulley

24" x 12" textured mixed media painting on canvas

This winter has been so grey and cold that I had to buy a bouquet of sunflowers to cheer myself up. Not only did they do the trick, but I was also inspired to paint their infectious beauty. To lift your spirits, too, I arranged the blooms vertically in my composition and repeated the circular shapes in the foreground and background to create a sense of joyful energy and movement. I hope you can hear a beautiful symphony playing while sunflowers dance to the melodic tune.

These vibrant sunflowers can also be hung horizontally.

Abstract Texas Wildflower Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

“Spring Interlude II" ©2023 Niki Gulley

36" x 36" textured mixed media painting on gallery wrap canvas

In this painting, I wanted to render the Indian Paintbrush and Texas wildflowers abstractly. Focusing on the patterns of color that those vibrant reds, serene greens and warm pops of light form, allows you to feel the excitement of peering into a huge field of wildflower glory. Mysterious light begins to break through the distant foliage, illuminating the blossoms and guiding your way on your morning walk through the spring glory.  That dreamy dawn light beckons you to slow down, revel in the journey and then explore what's beyond while taking in nature's symphony.

"Field of Dreams" Large Triptych Sunflower Painting by Niki Gulley

"Field of Dreams" ©2023 Niki Gulley

Three 48" x 36" canvases to form a 48" x 90" triptych
textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Field of Dreams is inspired from the beautiful sunflower fields we visited in Provence, France. The flowers seemed to stretch forever and the color explosion was out of this world! Back in my studio, I worked from a combination of photos, on-site sketches and memories. Painting the sunflowers full-sized in the foreground helps to bring them to life and hopefully transport you to this happy location. Including surprising pops of vivid reds and purples keeps your eye moving throughout the scene, seeing new things each time you look at it, and adds to the joyful feeling.
