11” x  14” oil painting on canvas panel

In support of Lahaina’s efforts to rebuild, Artists of Lahaina has been organizing an auction of original artwork by artists from all over the world. With about 1,000 works of art donated, the auction is nearing a total value of $1 million. All auction proceeds will go to a partner nonprofit that is helping displaced families heal after the fire, and enabling artists to stay in the community and play a role in its recovery.

Bidding starts Sept 15th at https://www.artistsforlahaina.com/.

I am so glad that I had this painting of these gorgeous orchids blooming in Hawaii and could donate to this important cause!

Heavily Textured Poppy Painting by Impasto Artist Niki Gulley

“Running Red III” ©2023 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 30" x 48" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

Just sold! I love it when my collectors share their photos with me. My painting looks so vibrant and cheerful in her office. I’m so glad she is loving it - that is the best reward for an artist!

In this series, I wanted to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Working on oversized canvases and painting the blossoms larger than life add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, ribbons of brightly colored blooms dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. Subconsciously, I feel like these light-filled visions came to me in response to so much bad news and the COVID lockdown. Searching for a way to create more space, room to roam and the freedom to live life to its fullest, I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

"Visions of Azaleas" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Niki Gulley

"Visions of Azaleas" ©2022 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, framed in an espresso floater frame

Sold through The Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX! Painted on location, I set up my easel in front of these prolific azalea bushes along Turtle Creek near my home. The vibrant pinks and fuchsia were so full of life set against the cool green leaves, that I wanted to capture not only that vivid spring color but also the elegant sycamore tree in the distance with its speckled white bark.  Contrasting the height of the vertical tree against the horizontal blooms, I chose this vertical panoramic canvas, and repeating shapes throughout creates a harmony to the overall scene. Painted with palette knife and lots of texture, I hope you can feel the beauty and energy of a perfect spring day.

Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley Painting Roses in Her Garden

"Moving Expectations III" ©2023 Niki Gulley

20" x 30" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

As my garden kept evolving this spring, I was treated every day to a new blossoming surprise! After my irises were complete, I was greeted by the most gorgeous roses I've seen since I planted them 5 years ago. So, of course I had to go out and capture those beauties before they disappeared.

Wanting to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light, I painted the blooms large to add to that feeling of hope and exuberance. Choosing to leave the background airy and working with thick layers of white on white paint, multi-colored roses dance across the canvas with spontaneity and freedom. I hope these paintings bring the beauty of nature inside and fill your spirit with light and cheer.

Taking the ideas that I started in this new series from inside my studio to outside in my garden, my goal was to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. My irises this year were so beautiful and prolific and added so much joy after the year that we had, that I felt compelled to capture their symbols of optimism.

New Contemporary Tulip Painting by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

"Rhapsody in Bloom II" ©2023 Niki Gulley

20" x 20" textured oil painting

I painted these cheerful tulips from life in my backyard garden. With all of our rain this year, I had a bumper crop and wanted to capture the joy I felt seeing them signaling that winter was finally over and spring had begun! Created with palette knife and thick paint, this piece is bursting with color and texture. Blurring out the background, you can focus on each individual flower. Creating a circular composition within the square format creates a harmony and flow, while unblended diagonal marks add to the energy and happiness of the moment. I hope these tulips brighten your day and lift your spirits, too.

Winter Wonderland Commission by Palette Knife Artist Niki Gulley

"Cookie's Winter Garden" ©2022 Niki Gulley

SOLD • 24" x 12" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

Just Shipped! This has been a busy year for commissions! Next, I was asked to create two special paintings for some collectors of mine, whom we have become really close to over the years. They have accompanied us on an Art Trek and have graciously invited us to stay with them in Mexico and the United States since that fun-filled trip. So, I was truly honored and flattered that they asked me to paint Cookie's garden in full bloom during the summer and also frosted with snow in the winter.

Trying to take fairly horizontal compositions and turn them into narrow vertical paintings made for a fun, challenging project! While, making sure the garden was filled with a beautiful dusting of snow so that every branch was iced and including personal details like the angel statue and the Christmas wreath on the red door, I wanted their garden and walkway to welcome you into their lovely home.

New "Rosy Surprise" Palette Knife Painting by Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Rosy Surprise" ©2022 Niki Gulley

16" x 16" Textured Mixed Media on Canvas

What a beautiful surprise to have these roses blooming in my garden this winter! Of course the next night it was supposed to freeze and I couldn't let these beauties go to waste. After cutting and assembling them in a vase, I just kept staring at them as they were bringing so much color and joy to the grey day. Despite several projects on my plate, I had to take a break and capture these rosy fleeting blooms. May they bring some vibrancy to your winter days, too.

"Flowing into Spring" Palette Knife Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

"Flowing into Spring" ©2020 Niki Gulley

24" x 12" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas, framed in an espresso floater frame

I painted this scene from the Dallas Arboretum on location recently when the weather was beautiful and the spring buds were in full bloom. I love tulips being one of the first flowers to announce that winter has officially ended, so I focused on these colorful red and white striped ones in the foreground, which contrast so well against the complimentary green leaves and grasses. I also liked how their height leads you back into the distant flower beds and onto the Degolyer house in the background, so I chose this vertical panorama format to accentuate that feeling. Loaded with thick oil paint, texture and movement, I hope you can feel the joy that spring is in the air!

"Purple Majesty" Lavender field by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Purple Majesty" ©2020 Niki Gulley

20" x 30" textured oil painting

The lavender fields in Provence are incredible – perfectly manicured rows and rows of an explosion of violet as far as the eye can see. Rippling purple columns draw your eye to the lone stone farmhouse in the distance. Meanwhile the sun starts setting through the clouds spanning across the sky in rhythmic waves, mirroring the lavender shapes below and creating a flowing harmony. Perspective lines converge, leading you to this joyful spot and I hope you can smell the amazing aromas and feel your spirits lifted while gazing into this scene!
