Sketch Turned into Christmas Cards by Suzy Pal Powell

I did a boot sketch and the owner of the boots liked the sketch and said just throw some lights or something and make a card with it. So thanks to Gouache i could do that. It turned out cute for a western Christmas card.  The Tag will have Merry Christmas on it.

They have a cute dog, named Fuzz, and he will be on the inside with the verse.

All Dressed Up by Suzy Pal Powell

I am working on getting some western pieces done. This one is called 'All Dressed Up'.
I took photos at the neighbors branding and there was a young woman there with her red boots, chaps with extra long fringe and beautiful spurs! I just LOVE all of that. I dont dress like that but I  love to see it.  It is so much my heritage having seen my granddaddy for years working with his horses.  That is where I learned to love it all!

It is 22x28 matted and framed.  This is a poured painting with a little brush work on it.

Time for Work

Another Poured painting. Trying to get the leather to look like leather is fun with this technique.
I was happy with the turn out of this painting. It will be 22x28 framed.   I have had trouble naming it, and it may change at some point.

Santa Fe Gates and Doors #12 and 13 by Suzy Pal Powell

I didn't get to post yesterday, we were canning peas. What fun! that is a lot of hard work! Plus it affects the allergies. But we got them done and had fun as a family doing them.  Here is Day 12 and 13 combined. I think i have a new favorite for today.. Day 13.  Maybe because it was pretty hard to paint the steps behind the gate! Another challenge!
These are both 6x8 on gessobord, painted with acrylics.  I am beginning to appreciate the acrylics a little more. It is just so different that watercolors.

Santa Fe #1 by Suzy Pal Powell

I decided at the last minute....the day before... to join the 30 paintings in 30 days, starting today.
It is really a challenge just to get something painted each day.  I am planning on doing Santa Fe Gates, but may not be able to stand to paint 30 of them! I am also trying with acrylics, always trying to challenge and push myself to improve.  So far, I don't like acrylics!
they will be posted on my website in the store area if you are interested in buying any of them.

Summer Fun by Suzy Pal Powell

I have been invited to do a workshop with the group 'Sisters on the Fly' in October.
I am so excited to get to meet them and see their cute campers.  This is 'practice' to get ready.
It was fun but a little tedious since it is only 8x10.  The Silver didn't want to stick, so I had some issues with it, but was a fun piece to do!

Keri's Jacks by Suzy Pal Powell

I still have Keri's Jacks and Kenley's Marbles they played with when they were little.
This was a fun poured painting.  I put them on a piece of watercolor paper and set them in the late afternoon sun to get the shadows.

The Nursery by Suzy Pal Powell

I have worked several days on this collage. I have an oriole nest to work from. They are unbelievable!
The way they find strings, twine and other stuff to go into the baby's home!
I have one that has 3-4 different colors of stuff in it. I just love to study them.

Fan Quilt

I am still trying to paint each day. I did miss yesterday because I had a class, but finished this one today.

This was painted from the first Quilt I made.
I ended up making 2 so both kids would have one. Boy they are a lot of work! After doing the spools, it made me want to drag out some quilts and see if I could paint it. I spent a lot more time on this than any of the others.  I can see some things I should have done differently.  Maybe I will on the next one!
It is 6x6 Oil on gessobord.
I am learning more and more about oil painting, and am enjoying the challenge.

I re-did the bird nest, by adding some branches. It was just in midair actually!

These are available.
