I Love Barrel Racing! - western figurative oil painting of horse and rider barrel racing

Here's a finished - and I hope - an improved version of the earlier post.   (Thank you Hilda!)  Barrel racing is a cross between grace and athleticism and - wow - the relationship between horse and rider is beautiful to behold!  There aren't ever enough participants at the rodeo, but I probably feel that way  because I could watch endlessly!  There will be more western paintings because I have sketches and photos from the rodeo and dances here (Junction, Texas) in August.  I painted this piece on 12 x 9" panel.  To see more of my artwork, please click here to visit my blog at Hackberry Street Studio and here to visit my website

"Filly In The Field" - Thaw Malin iii

"Filly In The Field"

"Filly In The Field", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

This white horse has been tempting me to paint it for many months. In the mid to late afternoon of a sunny day, its white coat is really illuminated against the darkness of the wood beyond. Today was the perfect time to capture the horse on canvas. Even the deer hunters draped in orange who crept out of the woods behind it could not spoil the scene. (I was positioned at the side of the road and knew they would not shoot in my direction)...

The value of this work of art is $550 USD, but, as my gift to you, for the 7 days of the auction each piece is in from the day it is created, you may start bidding at $100 (before the price becomes $550)… This is my way of saying thank you for enjoying my work and keeping me creating new ones almost everyday. Your interest stimulates and inspires me and has made me a better painter for it.

If think you'd like to purchase this piece, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 USD.

"Black Beauty" charcoal by Texas fine artist Linda Bein

"Black Beauty"
charcoal
12"x18"
This was a class demo using charcoal that I didn't post.  Hard for some of my students to visualize in just one color while looking at a real life photo.  Just a little exercise of seeing the value in one color.  I have used this photograph for several demonstrations; I need to get out and take some new photos but it is too hot!!  Soon my fall classes will resume and we will start with drawing and shading and move on to monochromatic watercolor paintings.  I usually save the charcoal for the end but I think we will start with the charcoal instead of pencil, even though I will probably have to wash the walls when we are done.
$150

The Bend - Thaw Malin iii

"The Bend"

"The Bend", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel. This painting has SOLD.

This was the third day I have spent down at the Bend farm painting. The first day was mainly exploring as it is partially surrounded by bush/forest. The second day I was on tenterhooks from sun-up onward as rain came and went. After finding a very ripe blackberry patch and having to run to a big old gum tree for shelter, I ended up painting this from inside the horse run-in shed out of the rain drops...

Shapes of a Horse__6x8 oil on linen__V....Vaughan

"Shapes of a Horse"___6 x 8 oil on linen___$150 if you want it FIRST!
This little painting happened because I "show" better than I "tell" when I teach art workshops...I brought a similar painting to the workshop with me, and as I explained that it's only "shapes of color" that make up a painting, I showed the group what colors I mixed, then I just laid them on the canvas in the same order as the sample painting and it turned out to be this little painting. To see all the juicy detail, click the image from the BLOG. And while you are there, sign up to "follow me", and you will be the first to know when I post new art :)
I PROMISE that tomorrow will start "Longhorn Week"...watch
