Just Sold! I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick paint and palette knives, I chose this lily pond reference from our visit to Monet's Gardens in Giverny, France. The grounds were breathtaking and I could actually see his paintings come to life. I was drawn to the energetic flow and yet calming serenity in this view, and I positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a curving pattern to add to that mood. The morning light peeking through the distant foliage added to a sense of mystery and promise that I wanted to capture in paint, and share with you that feeling of hope.

In 18 days, I'll be in Southern France at Le Vieux Couvent to teach my first French workshop! I'm a bit excited. I keep finding myself floating through rooms and spaces, imagining aperitifs, midnight church bells out my blue shuttered, open bedroom windows, creme brûlée, gelato, shopping in the ancient markets of Soulliac.... The dream come true bucket list just goes on and on!

I'm incredibly honored to be sharing this experience with students in two classes, back to back, and a fun little side trip to Paris right smack dab in the middle. Students from Ireland, Canada, Australia, and across the US are converging for the Great French Escape! I will share all my favorite photos with you on my Facebook fan page, so stay tuned, flower friends! My absolute fondest wish is that you will take this journey with me someday. My 2016 France dates are already set so check your dream come true wish list, this is the painting getaway you've always deserved!

There is just something about that European greeting, the kiss, that always takes me by surprise. Not that I don't like it, I could get used to it, but being a gal from Texas, we were taught "The Hug" rather than "The Kiss" and so going in for the hug and suddenly getting lips on your cheek is like discovering you're doing the Cotton Eyed Joe when your partner was intent on the Texas Two Step. It's really just a different point of view on a greeting, and one that is much warmer, even than a hug. Like I said, I could get used to this whole European thing! And it's a good thing, since my France workshop is coming up in August. Mon cher, I must pack again soon!

For now I'm finally back on Texas time, the unending rains have cut off the main road into and out of Flower Mound, and I'm so thankful, yet again, to be a work at home artist! We're not paddling around in boats, though it sure looks like it from the national news. Not to worry, I have plenty of Dove chocolate and crackers and cheese. I can hold up literally for days on such awesome rations!

The Wanderer is the newest painting in my French cottage series, I brought home close to a thousand photos from our trip to Southern France last September, and every time I look through them I discover new little treasures. I love putting the kitties into the scenes, they always add just a little mystery and fun, and make my imagination spin off little stories and adventures for these four footed fluffballs. This little kitty was based on the photos I got of Loki, the resident kitty at Le Vieux Couvent, where I'll be teaching in August. Next week is my French painting workshop in North Texas, and I can hardly wait because there are so many fun surprises in store for my students. Waiting for the Dinner Bell is another in my Romantic French Kitty series, and a memento of all the evenings we spent waiting for the dinner bell during my visit to Le Vieux Couvent in September. Imagine having a French chef to serve you three meals a day for 10 days, let's just say, I cried a little tear when we left, if only because we had to bid adieu to the food!

French Dahlias Flower Market is another memento from my trip to Southern France this year. I have so many wonderful photos of flower markets and brightly colored umbrellas it was hard to decide which one to paint. The umbrellas in the open air markets were all shapes and sizes, and many looked like they were well into middle age, sagging here and there, but still colorfully standing sentinel over their wares.

Southern France is very different than the US, there are few fast food places, grocery stores or shopping malls. People there really do visit these centuries-old markets for their bread, cheese, meats, fresh eggs and flowers. How does one shop in an open air market? Read more...

Looking for Love is my new Romantic Kitty Watercolor from Le Vieux Couvent in Southern France this week. Bonjour flower friends and romantic kitties from across the world! May your journeys always lead to bowls of warm milk, freshly opened cans of tuna, and warm beds in which to snuggle...

We visited my favorite village in France, St. Cirq Le Popie! I'll be taking my students here in August 2015 and can't wait to visit this town again. Tomorrow we paint paint paint and Friday we go to the medieval town carved into the side of a cliff, Rocamadour. Miss you bunches flower friends!

I finally have my land legs here in Frayssinet as I write this post for you from the Lot Valley in Southern France. The church photo below is the view from my bedroom window at Le Vieux Couvent, a 17th Century convent converted into an artist school and retreat. I can lean out my blue shuttered window, resting my elbows on the thick, ancient stone wall, and see the stars so clearly tonight.There is nothing but perfect silence outside, except for the historic bells.

Every few hours, the bells ring from the village church here in this medieval village. Years ago, the this was how the townsfolk were able to tell what time it was, and it helped the workers in the fields know when it is time to come in for meals. Now the bells toll for a different purpose. Read more...

I've had a difficult time tearing myself away from my garden these past few days, but with all this color, can you blame me? My pink and blue hydrangeas are in full bloom, and thanks to the cool weather here in Texas, they may decide to stay at least a few more weeks. While I'm unpacking from my Tennessee workshop (and packing for Houston, Texas, next week!), I had time to open registration yesterday for a new workshop in Southern France. Midnight Blue Hydrangeas is a new small work completed a few moments after midnight. Today was spent packing for my Nashville, Tennessee workshop. I've got to be a little strategic, since I need to leave enough supplies here for my Irving, Texas workshop, coming up in 1 week. It never fails I always discover one color I am almost out of right before ship day! It's like Murphy's law or something...I can blame it on the flurry of activity since I launched my France workshop on Thursday. The class is almost completely full, with only 2 seats left. It's the good kind of busy to be!
