Into the Air Pink Poppies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and it's good to be home after a whirlwind trip to Coronado Island for my solo show at Art and Frames by Wood Gallery in Southern California. It was a wonderful show, with so many good friends in attendance, the most scrumptious refreshments you ever tasted, and enough sales to pay for the trip! *confetti*

A few weeks ago, I received a $1000 gift card from my editorial board as a thanks for my work on the magazine. It took me all of five minutes to spend half of it. It was like being on a game show or something! In case you are wondering what $400 worth of paint looks like, I've shared a photo on my art blog today! I'm not quite sure why the song "Isn't She Lovely" runs through my mind every time I see all that fresh new paint! The smallest tube of all is the new one I tried today for this pink poppy painting.

It's good to be back in the studio after a weekend in Coronado, California, painting in the garden during the 88th Annual Flower Show. Thank you to Art and Frame by Wood Gallery for hosting my annual show, and every who came by to help me eat that homemade rum cake! What a cool surprise to have so many Facebook friends pay a visit! This year I met the architect of one of the best cottage gardens on the island, one which is named in the top 10 each year.  I'll be sharing his tips on how to make your flower gardens exquisite, and a photo tour of my favorite cottages in my newsletter soon!

Coronado Island Sunset Arbor is almost as much a watercolor application of oils as it is a traditional oil painting. I love experimenting with transparent paints, and staining my canvas in blocks of light, color and shape. Letting those transparent paints shine through, without covering them, can give your painting a feeling of depth.

Tomorrow I fly to one of the most beautiful places in California, Coronado Island. Rest assured my camera battery is charging, and I've got my comfy walking shoes packed - first things first, we stop somewhere for excellent fish tacos, then grab our flower show map to start tracking down and photographing all the top award winning gardens and cottages. The 88th Annual Flower Show will be in full swing in Spreckles Park, and I'll have a whole day before my solo show at the gallery begins. I hope to see you there!

Tabletop Tableau Blue Hydrangeas is a mixture of a few of my favorite things - sunflowers, geraniums, hydrangeas, daisies and green apples! I've started work on a new four foot container garden painting for my show on Coronado Island near San Diego, California, coming up in April. I can hardly wait to visit this beautiful island during the flower show, and fill up my camera's memory stick and my computer hard drives with another few hundred flower photos!

What a thrill today to find one gorgeous blue hydrangea plant at the flower market! It was hidden way in the back behind the scads of price inflated Valentine's day flower baskets. I purchased about $100 worth of Rosemary brushes for a workshop in Scottsdale last week. Since the trip was canceled, I decided to break out those super fancy brushes and see if I liked them as much as my $1.50 each Royal bristlettes. The verdict is still out, but, just as advertised, these brushes DO NOT shed like the other high dollar types so many artists have wrestled with in the past.

I do have a bit of exciting news, my annual solo show on Coronado Island, near San Diego, has been scheduled for April 20, during the 88th Annual Flower Show. I can hardly wait to get over to the island and get a few hundred new photos of the cottage gardens there. The Island residents consider their annual Flower Show to be quite a serious competition, and the roses in the show are literally the size of dinner plates, with every color imaginable. I hope to see you at my show - I'll be painting all day in the garden at Art and Frames by Wood Gallery on Orange Avenue, the oldest gallery on the island. Stop by and say hi to Jill and the gallery family there, and see some of my four and six foot wide container gardens of flowers while you're at it!
