I almost missed the color changes in these mash grasses, as they turn from green through orange and gold then brown and silver. Soon enough, beside sky and cloud, the cool blue water will remain the sole enchanting dancer in the land and sea of winterscape...

I sort of knew where the moon would rise when I started this piece. But, I really didn't. I hadn't done a compass reading, nor looked at the astronomical chart. I was glad it wasn't off in the pines to the right as I might never have seen it until too late...

My muse drew me out to the end of the farm this evening, but I just couldn't see what was there. I turned about, walking back to the van in defeat. No cow or horse, sheep or sail, just a totally flat, open landscape. Until I turned the corner as the sun came out for the last half hour of the day...

"Riding Out the Storm", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.
Mid afternoon I found a painter friend painting along the docks. It seemed risky as Hurricane Earl was spitting water down. Able to get my iPhone to work at a signal sweet spot, I looked at the current radar map. We were between spiral arms of rain emanating out from the core of the storm. We painted intensely for about 45 minutes before ducking into our cars when the next arm swung over head. One more clear spot for about an hour and we finally packed up just as the rain began in earnest...
