Paper Doll Poppies and Painting on Oil Paper by Nancy Medina

Paper Doll Poppies

Oil on Arches Oil Paper

If you've ordered anything from Dick Blick lately, you've probably received a pad of their free Arches cold pressed oil paper. I decided to give the surface a try the other night, and was pleasantly surprised! The paper reacted well to the flow of my oils without a feeling of the brush tips dragging on a rough surface. I didn't have to prime or prepare the paper in any way. It's been about four days since I painted Paper Doll Poppies, and the color has not faded or been absorbed by the paper. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it next! Glue it to something? Hmmmm...

Morning Glow Poppy Solo is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio Number 2, painted this morning in the space formerly known as my dining room. Honestly, who needs a dining room? The pugs in particular prefer we eat on the couch. I was so excited about all the beautiful morning light streaming into the new studio, I almost had the perfect day. Until the boss arrived. Red Flame Poppies by Texas FlowerArtist Nancy Medina

Oil on Linen Board

Red Flame Poppies is a new painting in Flower Mound Studio at the end of a very productive day - the hubby finished taping my sunflower DVD and so just a few more edits and it should be ready for distribution! We had to re-shoot the opening segment, since this is the part where my face shows and I actually speak, and let's just say that Take One required a great deal more air brushing and soft lighting. This time I actually wrote what I was going to say instead of trying to wing it, and taped it in big letters to Carlos' chest since he was holding the camera. I think he has earned extra brownie points for re-shooting the opening and letting me tape my speech to his chest, don't you?

Summer Sun Poppies by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Summer Sun Poppies by Nancy Medina

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

The summer sun was intense today in North Texas, and poppies were blooming all over the place in Flower Mound Studio. Tonight a thunderstorm has rolled in, and this weather reminds me of summers on the farm when the lightning would shake our little house in the woods and the rain came down so hard my sisters and I had to yell to hear each other talk. The pugs slept right through the storm this afternoon, although our new adopted girl, Hannah, needed to be held and comforted. Storms are not her thing. No worries, though, she was safe and sound in her mama's arms!
