As I was looking at some images of paintings that I have painted over the years, my subject matter varies.  Many times I paint in a series of the same subject.  I go through the dog, aspens, florals, landscapes, abstracts, cows, roosters, and boat painting phases. Here is a painting that was inspired from a trip to the east coast, and I found the boats in Maine to be very interesting.  We are already into the month of February, and I haven't settled into a series of paintings yet.  It might be abstracts, not sure.  Today's post is a painting that is framed and hanging in the studio.  I like the composition and the wide brushstrokes on this canvas.  This painting is available for purchase. #30 Painting in 30-30 Challenge:  Slices of Life by Leslie Saeta

This little painting came about as I was looking through photos of our trip to Maine last September.  John and I were driving along the coast and came across a small fishing village, and we were standing on a pier looking back at the shore.  I cropped my photograph way down to focus in our these three boats:  a dinghy, rowboat and a canoe.  They were clustered up close to the Irish Lady (painted that one yesterday) and I liked the way they were sitting in the water.  I haven't painted very many boats---I may want to do some more.  Now that our 30 day challenge is over with, I won't stop painting everyday.  I will probably go back to larger canvases, wide brushes and palette knives.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art here.  I have met some neat artists along this 30 day challenge, and that has been fun.  kay@kwyne.com......Thanks, KMW

The Irish Lady was washed up on the shore off the coast of Maine-

it was a perfect chance for me to take some photos.

I eliminated the men working on the boat, simplifying my painting.

Because the paint is so thick and juicy, I did not put any lettering

on the sideof The Irish Lady.  I did not want to get fussy with it.

I also took out another boat that was beached up with it.

My biggest challenge on this painting was green,

as I did not want to get it all over

the panel, and into the white. I think I got burnt-out on roosters,

as I am working on another boat/seascape painting for tomorrow.

This painting is sitting on my easel drying.  My inspiration for this painting was an old dinghy located on the rocky shores of Scarborough, Maine.  The boat was at a fishing wharf, and I loved the rust, moss and weathered look of the dinghy.  The air smelled old and fishy.  The landscape was beautiful, the dinghy was a sharp contrast to it's surroundings.  It was Just Waiting for an adventure out on the water.  Thanks for viewing....kay@kwyne.com

I started this on a rainy evening a few days ago while sitting inside my van. I couldn't finish it then and went back a few more times for better details. The light was not as dark and overcast the next few times. So I waited until it was almost dark for the colors to mute more like the original start day...

Going, Going, Gone! by Judy Crowe

Well Hi Everyone,  As the name of this post implies, I have been going, going, going.  Wow.  Time to stay home and get some things done here.  The following are studies that I have done on recent plein air trips.  What a great opportunity to be able to paint outside in the open air.  Whenever I look at these studies, I can remember the exact time of day, the way I felt, the smells, the sounds, the wonderful encounters with people and otherwise....(critters).  The top painting is the beautiful Louisiana bayou as was the last study of the marsh.  The middle study (not the greatest photo) was from the Teton Valley near a place called Moose Creek.  The weather that day could not decide on whether to be cloudy, rainy, or sunny so I stuck with the first thing I got when I set up to paint, cloudy with sprinkles.  I wore my friend Kathy's bear bells that day....and was on constant lookout for them.  They are everywhere.  There is some discussion between locals there whether the bear bells let the bears know you are there and to stay away from humanoids or whether they send the message...'hm there is a human around with backpack and food!'.  So I kept my eyes pealed.  :)  Next week I'll be working on 'tweaking' some of my other studies done last month and also I will start to post my small works to finish off my 50 / 50 project..just in time for Christmas.  Thanks as always for allowing me into your digital life via this blog!

Summer Dawn - Thaw Malin iii

This was begun one June evening and completed July 5. I had only one visitor as I painted the first evening. It was the captain himself down to check the lines. This last time there were at least 15 or 20 people with ice cream cones and/or cameras wandering around the docks. Summer must be here...

Another rain drenched day, sitting in the van painting with wind howling all around. I caught most of this image on location. Then had to finish at home as the wind was rocking the van to distraction. It felt good to be out working, but not so good having to complete so much back in the studio...
