Daily Painters of Texas: dresses

Sans Souci Garden Path is the newest tribute to romance in Flower Mound Art Studio. I created this garden scene by blending many of my Dallas Arboretum photographs with art model photos taken in the past, cutting, pasting and overlapping until I found a composition that worked. With a strong vertical element (the little lady) I needed an equally strong, but less important horizontal element to help push her forward, and create a nice bit of tension for the eye. The fuschia hedgerow filled the bill!

You are invited to join me February 14-16 for three days of painting loose, bright, fun flowers and dresses in North Texas in my workshop designed specially for the traveling artist. With free transportation to and from the airport and to class each day, located just a few miles from the airport, this is an easy quick trip for those who want to dip their toes in a fun workshop with lots of cool giveaways. The workshop is almost full so don't delay! Put a little romance in your brush and join me for some Valentine's fun!

What happens when you mix live models, wedding gowns, diamonds, roses and pugs? A swirl of noise and excitement! Today was my first time to host a live model in Flower Mound Studio. Not only was my model the cutest gal ever, she grew up with pugs and was as happy to see my four footed helpers as they were to greet her (noisily and with gusto!). What a great way to warm up the brushes for my Valentine's workshop, Painting Romantic Florals and Dresses!

With chocolate, gourmet cupcakes, white wine, and a tray of sparkly jewelry and cute shoes in piles, we kicked off the event in thoroughly girly girl fashion. As mentioned a few days ago, I've converted my dining room into another studio (who needs a dining room??) and we had all sorts of great space and natural light for modeling and painting. I'll share more photos and paintings from the day with you over the weeks and months ahead, so stay tuned to my art bloggy. Thank you so much Angela, for making this such a special day for the pugs and I in Flower Mound Studio!

A number of elemental forces converged for the creation of The Power of Love in White, Teal and Pink Lace in Flower Mound Studio today: The fresh peonies had one last gasp, the big ole canvas was prepped and ready for something joyful to appear, and my new 29 dress collection was crying aloud for another member to join the growing ranks of frills and fluff! I'm working on my January art newsletter, too, and getting ready to pick a grand prize winner (yes, you will win the full day private lesson in Flower Mound Studio, keep thinking positive!). I confess that the pictures from the Golden Globes did have some influence on the decision to paint another dress, maybe it's just me, but I think the gowns were more elegant, overall, this year than I have seen in a very long time, what did you think?

There is nothing like a fluffy skirt to make a girl feel dreamy, don't you agree? I've been infatuated with these dress paintings, thinking of them all day long, divining in my mind the idea, back view, front view? wedding dress? brunette? red head??? By the time the palette is set out, colors mixed, and raw canvas is propped before me, I've tied myself into little art couture fits and can hardly wait to get started. Painting each day is my reward, and I'm so very fortunate to have this calling. My studio day ended on a banner note, when I received a message from David Marine of Daily Paintworks notifying me that White Rose Rebellion placed second in their monthly art challenge contest. Such a huge honor, and what a delight to discover the juror is a seasoned plein air landscape painter! We should definitely get dressed up in some frilly skirts and celebrate....

Sunshine Poppy Party Dress is the fifth dress in my 29 Dresses Series, and also the fifth painting in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge by Leslie Saeta. This party frock is a bit whimsical, and the wide black belt is designed to minimize the waist. I'm continuing my hunt for excellent fashion books for inspiration and admiration, and today received a note from a friend and excellent artist suggesting a Dior book that I can hardly wait to add to my collection! I love classic, beautiful, simple and elegant design. I think it's absolutely timeless.
