Contemporary Spirited Horse Painting

This painting was inspired by a photograph that I took at the Lone Star Race Track in Grand Prairie, Texas. It was a very warm and sunny day, and all of the jockeys in colorful jerseys really caught my eye. There were seven horses out of the gate on this race, but I decided to focus on two horses for this painting. I had the starting gates painted in, but decided that the background needed to leave more to the imagination of the viewer's eye. I did not want to give away too much information. So, I focused on the horses and the energy on the track. I used wide brushes, oil pastels sticks and the palette knife.

Finish Line by Kay Wyne

Finish Line is a 16" x 16" Oil Painting...Sold. But I had to post it since it is the first Saturday in May....the Kentucky Derby runs today! It is always a fun time to watch....especially all the traditions that go along with the derby. I have the Kentucky Derby on my bucket list...I hope to get there sometime! Anyway, I posted this painting because of the day, and I hope the race is fun, exciting, colorful and memorable. Have a great day....Kay

Horse Race - Untitled, probably not finished,

but almost finsihed...does that make sense?

I have been working on this painting for two weeks. I thought I was finished, so I signed it and took a photograph today at the studio. Now that I am looking at it on the computer, I see several things that need attention. So I will go back tomorrow and make a few brush strokes on this very wet canvas. It is oil on 16" x 20" canvas. It will need a frame, probably a gold or dark wood moulding would look best. Will post more on this painting later. It is cold and chilly in Dallas today...got a fire going and watching football now that I am home. I hope that you are having a great holiday with family and friends. The Inside Track

I finished this painting. Normally I paint odd numbers of objects or subject matter in my paintings, but four horses seemed to work for me on this canvas. I did have some horses in the background at one time, but decided to blurr the background completely. Initially I had the starting stalls in the background with roof and sky painted in, but I changed my plans. The horse with the green blinker on the inside track is in the lead. This painting conveys the energy, excitement, and competitiveness of the horse race. This painting will be for sale once it dries and placed up at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
