My irises this year were so beautiful and prolific and added so much joy after the year that we had, that I felt compelled to capture that feeling on canvas. Taking the ideas that I started in this new series from inside my studio to outside in my garden, my goal was to create pieces that are full of joy, energy, texture and light. Painting the flowers larger than life and adding layers and layers of paint to build up texture, the cheerful blooms come to life and dance across the canvas.

The Good Art Company Gallery

I just returned from a quick trip to Fredericksburg, Texas, to deliver Boogie Nights and other new works to The Good Art Company gallery. A thunderstorm arrived there just as we did, and I watched the downtown merchants stand in their shop doorways with outstretched hands, so thankful for the rain. Sometimes it's the little things that make you want to dance!

Duet is a bird's eye view of some of the exotic irises from the Argyle Acres Iris Farm Carlos and I visited recently on their last day of the iris showings. I was so absolutely thrilled to find this haven of endless irises in every color imagineable. I could have taken a million pictures but a higher power decided that wasn't going to be the case, since the battery on my new camera died after we had been on the farm for about 30 minutes. I've got the date of the iris farm spring opening on my calendar for 2010 in bright bold letters, along with a note to self to "remember to charge camera battery."

Two to Tango is a new work that landed quite quickly on the canvas yesterday evening. Sometimes there are paintings waiting patiently in the back of my mind for me to mix just the right colors on the palette so they can bring themselves to life. Needless to say, these are always the most fun to paint. The transparent underpainting has a feel of watercolor, the medium that I used often years ago. I hope you enjoy your Sunday afternoon and have someone special in your life to Tango with!
