Storm Horizon Peonies and Painting Over an Older Work - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Storm Horizon Peonies is the newest large work in the studio. Sometimes the best paintings are the ones painted over previous works. This was originally a painting of a fair damsel sitting in the grass in a long white gown holding a blue umbrella. She was surrounded by an arbor of fuschia bougainvillea. So much of the work was already done for me! The entire upper background is exactly the same, an outdoor garden. Even the texture of the initial painting seemed to add a bit more to the peonies. The previous painting had not been varnished, so the surface was in perfect shape for another layer of color. Stay tuned, I'll share the final painting with you as soon as I can get an outdoor photo in good light.
