Spirit of the Race by Kay Wyne

Spirit of the Race

30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Contemporary Spirited Horse Painting

This painting was inspired by a photograph that I took at the Lone Star Race Track in Grand Prairie, Texas. It was a very warm and sunny day, and all of the jockeys in colorful jerseys really caught my eye. There were seven horses out of the gate on this race, but I decided to focus on two horses for this painting. I had the starting gates painted in, but decided that the background needed to leave more to the imagination of the viewer's eye. I did not want to give away too much information. So, I focused on the horses and the energy on the track. I used wide brushes, oil pastels sticks and the palette knife.

Close-up. This painting is too wet to move off the easel. I will take a better photograph of it in natural light once it dries. Thanks for looking at my art.....Kay at 214-532-0325

Neck & Neck by Kay Wyne

Neck & Neck

Oil on 32" x 30" Gallery Wrap Canvas

This painting will go to The Wine Therapist Exhibit (if it is dry enough!) This painting is fast and furious...lots of color, engergy and movement on the canvas. I wanted the viewer to keep looking at the horses...trying to decide which one is in the lead. It is close. I just finished and signed it today. I hope to put it in Studio Art & Soul's upcoming show. More details on the artists' reception and show. I hope that you had an artful day....I did!

Zenyatta Wins! racehorse oil painting

8 X 10 Oil on Linen Panel $125
Includes shipping and insurance in US

This is an amazing mare. Fourteen races, fourteen wins - most of them from way behind. Breeders cup winner two years in a row.
Mike Smith is the only jockey to ride her and I'm sure he is sad over her retirement. I'm sad because she didn't win "horse of the year". But I'm happy, too, because she is still healthy, unlike Barbaro (or Ruffian - remember her?).
I don't follow thoroughbred racing all that much, but this one is worth researching. Winning stories are nice to read about. And winners are nice to know (and paint).

This painting sold yesterday at the studio tour. I have always like the subject matter, color, movement and balance in this painting. A very nice lady named Madge purchased this, and I have no doubt that it will be hanging in a very nice place. Thanks to Madge and all the other visitors at the studio tour...it was alot of fun and success!!

Finish Line by Kay Wyne

This painting is full of color and energy. I wanted to put the excitement and fast pace of the race track on the canvas. It is framed up in a handsome cherry wood frame. If you would like to purchase this contemporary oil painting, please contact me:
