Though summer has ended, autumn has still not taken hold of central Texas. My garden continues to produce tomatoes and peppers of all kinds. Also, my little potted lemon tree is, in reality, a lime tree. What better way to celebrate the vibrant flavors of this produce than to make salsa?
This little painting is sold, but I have several other pepper paintings for the Dutch Art Gallery Show in October. These can be framed or simply propped up on a shelf or an easel. I am heading to the studio...we should have a full studio of artists today into the evening.
Fiery or mild, and available in countless varieties, the chili pepper is used in cuisines all over the world. Christopher Columbus was one of the first Europeans to encounter them (in the Caribbean), and called them "peppers" because of their similarity in taste (though not in appearance) with the Old World Black peppers. From Mexico, at the time the Spanish colony that controlled commerce with Asia, chili peppers spread rapidly into the Philippines and then to India, China, Korea and Japan.
I painted this 6" x 8" cotton panel canvas at a Carol Marine workshop. It was a good exercise to go through, and of course I like the subject matter. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please contact me. Thanks!
