This contemporary cow sold at The Dutch Art Gallery Dallas TX.

Thanks to owner Pam Massar who sold it to a collector from California.  I had just finished painting it, and had not put a title on it yet.  The photograph that I used for inspiration was taken down in the hill country of Texas a couple of years ago at a painting workshop.  I am anxious to see this painting framed up.  Thanks for viewing....Kay

"Bubba In A Tub" is getting ready to move.....this contemporary cow was sold to a collector in Iowa. Thank you, Brian!!! I am thrilled that Bubba has a new home and will ship him out today. I have been busy taking inventory and working on the dreaded books for 2011. Paperwork, bookkeeping and records are challenging for me....my least favorite thing about being an artist. This little calf was down at Jerry Miller's ranch in the hill country. She had a very sweet face, and was about the only animal on the ranch who cooperated with me...she was not on the move and I was able to really study her. I wanted to capture her innocent face just looking out as she laid under the tree. She was watching all the activity going on...lots of longhorns, bulls, dogs, horses and even a rattlesnake was seen that afternoon. And of course, all of us painting and taking photos as we were taking the Karen Bonnie workshop. I finished the grass and a few details up yesterday in the studio, so this painting is very wet. I will frame her up in a gold plein air frame. If you are interested in this painting, please contact me. SOLD to an Illinois Collector

This little painting will probably appear as the cover of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Cover this summer. Last year one of my daughter, Merideth's, photos was used, and this year they asked me to paint this cow and calf.
The bluebonnets are nearly gone in this part of Texas. About all that's left are plump seed pods waiting to burst open and spread their treasure for next year's show. Now the orange galardia (pin wheel), purple verbena and red paintbrush take center stage. Dandelions are support crew with appearances made by foxglove and primrose. The eyes never get a chance to be bored.

It's snowing again in Texas, but the bluebonnets are still poised for blooming. I know this to be fact. I have checked on ours that come up every year along our driveway. Thanks to the delightfully wet Indian Summer we experienced, the seeds germinated very well and are now in a state of semi-hibernation, just waiting for sun and warmth to spur them to growth and blossoms. Usually by Easter they are magnificent, and I see no reason to expect any less this year. The baby calves that also come in Spring are an added bonus....
