Color Jungle Cottage ~ Flower Painting and Cottage Garden Tours by Nancy Medina

Color Jungle Cottage Garden - Detail
20X20
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Color Jungle Cottage Garden is under construction in Flower Mound Studio tonight, based on the beautiful cottages of Coronado Island in Southern California. I'm super excited to be taking my students on a tour of these gardens during my flower painting workshop in San Diego, August 1-3. The flowers will be in bloom and we'll have plenty of opportunities to fill up the memory cards on our digital cameras and astound our husbands by how quickly we can subsume every millibite-thingy-ma-bob of space on our cell phone cameras, while we're at it! I've reached that awkward point where I have to make everyone posing for a photo "hang on a sec" while I delete 10 items in order to have space to take one more photo. Am I the only one in this predicament? Are there support groups for people like me?

This will not deter me from filling up a few more billy-bytes of space on my camera in August when we tour my favorite picket fence flower gardens each afternoon after class. I'll be taking my students on a tour of my top 10 favorites. Let's paint flowers and wiggle our toes in the sand together in sunny California!

Cherry Lane Cottage and Purple Roses of Coronado by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Cherry Lane Rose Cottage

Cherry Lane Rose Cottage is a new small work in the studio, as I finish work on a large commission of red daisies and sunflowers. I've shared a few of the amazing flowers of Coronado, California, an island just off the coast of San Diego on my art blog today, including the pale purple roses of the cottage gardens there. You can still find traces of an older time here, before the city encroached, and the older homes that are lovingly preserved and surrounded by beds of flowers of every variety. It's flower heaven on earth!

Fly Away Red Daisy and a Flower Stroll by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Fly Away Red Daisy by Nancy Medina

Oil on Linen Board

Fly Away Red Daisy is one of the small demos from my workshop in Fredericksburg, Texas, last weekend. The historic Hill Country Town was full of flowery inspiration, and it's where I landed right after returning from my show in Coronado, CA. I've been earning my frequent flower flyer miles this spring! Now that I'm back in the studio, I wanted to share more photos with you of the second place winning home from the April 2012 Coronado Island Flower Show. Take a peek at my blog to see the photos!

I think the home I featured on my blog won second place because the gardens, and the home, are located behind a wall. To see the gardens, you have to park and walk through the front gates (where a little yellow sticky invites flower garden admirers to step inside!). You should have seen Carlos' face when I went strolling through the front gates just like I lived there. Priceless!
